Let’s be clear: he is obviously betrayed, abused, humiliated, and violated in his intimacy; but in the long run, he is the safe harbor to which one can return. Even if he has a small **** or is a charming gnome.

Just thinking about a woman friend I have that in one month change his "drug": 10 days it's shopping, another 10 days it's reading, another 10 days it's food. So she would come to you in one month so happy that she find this new thing everytime she start again the addiction

Even if the unfortunate circumstances aren’t his fault and he bravely faces it, at best, she still won’t give him credit for it. At worst, she will blame him and look down on him for it.

As a man, you can individually take pride in the fact you can brave through this kind of thing. A woman, on the other hand, isn't going to give you brownie points for it. Yes, in an LTR you stand the best chance to maintain those by being her "rock," but its a balancing act to not go from being a rock to an emotional punching bag for her or worse, a doormat.

Have self-respect. Sometimes an LTR just needs to end. No point in living in misery.
