I have a theory that those of us who were raised by parents who had good marriages are more open to the idea of relationships than other guys. I don't care for your idea of cheating on your girlfriend though, assuming she thinks you are exclusive (which is what it sounds like).Maybe so because my parents have been together for about 30 years and my grandparents for about 60 and they've had their differencies, but they always managed to pull through.
It depends on how you define plates. I tend to think of plates as at least having the potential for a sexual relationship. It almost sounds like you are saying you have to be unethical in order to succeed with women (i.e. which in itself is immoral because it's a fornication, but that's another story that I won't get into for the purpose of this thread, so there is no "Christian - friendly" version of plates that does not involve sin which makes it irrational with me on all levels).
However, theoretically you could have plates without having sex with them. I don't know why you would see anything immoral about that. You could casually "date around" without making commitments.
I knew a girl who had very, very strict religious parents. They insisted that their daughter date around, and would not allow her to get "serious" with any one boy. I guess they thought this would prevent her from having sex. Well, not bloody likely in this day and age, but there are some people out there who hold that point of view.
