This is the funniest statement ever. First off all forms of poker are "real" whether its hold'em, stud, omaha or badugi. Secondly it is luck for the recreational player because they don't put in the amount of time to allow the odds to balance out properly. Skill is much more important the reads and tells lol. If you have no idea about a proper hand range to play in a tight game from UTG you will lose all your money regardless of your reads. Another thing, how do tells make poker real in a limit hold'em game? THEY DON'T. Tells are the last thing to look at in limit, so I guess in your eyes limit is not real?
Huh? I was just saying that I never saw the appeal of online poker, just sitting around on your computer playing a social game by yourself just seems odd to me. I suppose some guys can make money with online poker so props to them, but it doesn't seem real.

I casually enjoy poker with a circle of guys I know, drinking some beers, smoking whatever, shooting the shit, and winning a couple hundred bucks here and there.

mother FWCKER I'm so pissed right now. I had a sh!tload of hw to do tonight, but I went to some frat rush event at 8 since they were playing poker.

$5 buy-in, 13 players...1st place gets $50, 2nd place gets $10, 3rd place gets money back.

I wanted that money so fwcking bad. Played til about 1:30...when I lost at 3rd place. Got the WORST FWCKING CARDS the whole game. Best hand I was EVER dealt was AQ offsuit, once. I was dealt an ace maybe 4 or 5 times total the entire night. The only other good hand I was dealt was pocket 8's once.

All the other guys were just splashing chips around. Almost every hand went to the showdown, so I was basically waiting to hit some nuts or at least some kind of a hand and just let the money roll in. Never happened.

Fwck...now it's late and I gotta be up at 6, but not before reading 80 pages for a class. Just had to vent.

I used to play on PokerStars, but then the gubment decided to ban use of credit-cards/bankcards and I never trusted any of those third-party money-mover sites.

Every time I started getting into it, the people I knew who played would always either stop playing or just disperse in general.

I've been wanting to get to one of these new places in DE now that they legalized table-games there. Just haven't had time...

The most dangerous element in a poker-game is an amateur who doesn't know when to fold.

Were they raising big pre-flop, or just limping in? Usually in those amateur games, those guys will limp in pre-flop and call later if they have any draw whatsoever, but a good bet pre-flop gets them out of the hand.

That's something that's always impressed me about "real poker players"...their ability to move back and forth between different kinds of games.

I know as an amateur donkey, it's very hard for me to adjust to "limit" poker, because the implied odds are a lot less of a factor and without the extra risk, you get a bunch of those "chip-splashing" games where people know they're only in for so much and are more likely to call instead of folding.

Let alone trying to play something like Omaha...just knowing what's a good hand or not vs. Hold'Em is tricky.

I guess the more exposure you get to it, the easier it gets. I'd personally just like to get good at NLH. But I'd need practice. Which is what I'm not getting right now. :(

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

Limping in pre-flop, calling to the river with TERRIBLE pot odds. Occasionally raising pre-flop. Pre-flop raises didn't get them out, they played almost every fwcking hand. A couple times I picked up some small pots by raising 3x the BB pre-flop, missing on the flop, and continuation betting, but I really couldn't do that too much because it was too risky.

Just gotta slow play or value bet those fish all day long, depending on whether they're a crazed aggressor or calling station. I couldn't catch any hands.

From a credit card, yes. You have to use a third-party money wire.

US government was getting salty that so much tax money was being lost to people gambling using overseas casinos. So they banned using credit cards for online gaming for "moral reasons".

Even with total donkeys, there's often an amount you can bet pre-flop to get them to throw away junk. Sometimes it's something as psychological as the color of the chips. They'll throw those white and red ones around like they're pogs, but when one of those blue ones comes out, they're all like, "oh sh!t". (I'm not advocating over-betting pre-flop, just saying what I've observed)

Omaha really f's with my head...it's too many cards in play. :p I might have to see if I can find some books on the subject and re-learn.
