With few notable exceptions, TV is for women. Women are the primary consumers in western culture and advertisers know this. TV shows are no longer entertainment, but rather a vehicle for advertising - advertising designed to promote consumption from the largest consumer group.

Actually, that's how TV started out - and has never really changed from the ad model.

But yea, TV sux. Except for a few shows. But the rest is all tired formulas and propaganda.

Movies aren't that much different but they are just excuses for people to get out of the house and "do" something. Sure, you could get a similar experience with a home theater...but people like actually going OUT of the house regularly.
