Talk about AFC

Man I'm really disappointed in one of my cousin's. He just bought his gf a 6000 DOLLAR engagement ring. They have only been "dating" for ~6 months and it has mainly been long distance.

It all started at some VW car meet thing where he met this chick thats from Ohio. He has been driving up to Ohio almost every weekend for the past few months. This is like his first real girlfriend I guess you could say and he thinks he is in "love".

This has been ruining his relationship with his parents, causing him to be kicked out of his house. Also, it could possibly ruin his job because she doesnt want to move to Maryland.

I can tell she is just after him for his money because he has a good job making quite a bit and wanting a 6k ring. There is nothing I or any other person can do because he is an AFC and in "love". I just have to sit back and watch.......

You can't tell people anything, they wont listen. Its up to them to make the decision.

He's gonna learn the hardway. You can give one attempt to get through to him even get him to postpone what he's doing or get a pre-nupt. Then of course you could find a way to sabotage.

But generally in situations like this through my experience people don't listen.

I agree that he probably should have a word with his cousin about this, but I hardly see how this situation relates to paintball being a real man one way or the other.

His cousin will get burned, one way or the other, and sometimes you just gotta let people learn for themselves, that's just life.

Buying this girl a ring like that at this stage in the relationship is pathetic, though.

Yo paintballguy, just had a situation like that. yeah, there is absolutely NOTHING you can do about it. i got so tired of telling my afc friend that did just about the same thing your friend did, that i stopped. believe me...me and EVERYONE he knows tried to stop him from marry his extremely psycho girlfriend. and everyone but him knew what she was really like....besides the point, some people are just too HARD HEADED!

Easy, when you were an AFC, and not interested in help, if.. say, Allen came up to you and told you this DJ stuff, you wouldn't have listened. You, by yourself made the decision to change.

exactly. that's how it is most of the time. dont give someone your opinion unless they truly ask for it.

whatevers man, let him be, it's his love life and its not your busines to meddle with it.

I just find it amazing how so many AFCs aren't willing to listen, much less change. They instantly reject everything you say.

Even when I was AFC, I still at least knew there was something wrong, I just didn't know what.

This just plain old sucks. Hey it is his life. let him screw it up. I just gave up trying to help those people anymore. I tried to explain it to my brother that he shouldn't spend that much money on her. I even went as far as showing him the site. He laughed and wouldn't listen. BTW This is his first girlfriend. So I just said screw it and lets get the popcorn for the show.

Sad time we live in when people do this type of stuff especially since they listen more to what hollywood says than what family and other people say.

It's not about AFCness or anything if they're ignorant.

IN general most ppl dont like others giving them opinion on something. why? cause it makes it feel like you're telling them what to do, and what male would succumb to that ****, letting others control his decisions??

in addition, when you offer an opinion when someone doesnt ask for it, it makes you seem like you're better than them, tellin them what to do.

yes someone can be open-minded to suggestions, but that's only a small % of the population. and even if then, they might or might not consider it.

In the past i never understood why ppl are mostly ignorant and stubborn, but in the end we're all the same and its part of human nature.

Buying an expensive engagement ring in and of itself is not always "AFC". It's "tradition" to buy an expensive ring...an annoying tradition, true, but tradition nonetheless.

It's possible to give a girl an expensive present without supplicating to her, without trying to BUY her affection or trying to compensate for being inadequate. But it's not easy.

The thing that makes it "AFC" is that he's ruining his family life and his career for this woman.

But he drives a VW...what else can you expect?

Your cousin is in a serious mess. This WILL have a bad ending. How come we all can see it and he cannot? BECAUSE he is AFC.

You can print out this thread and show it to him, but it will be like casting pearls before swine.
