A few months ago I posted a thread about the Acura RSX Type-S. I was planning on getting one. Then I started researching the Subaru. It's a little more expensive(8000) but with that you get an extra 100 HP(300 Stock), AWD, tons of extra torque, and a lot more passenger friendly ride. Still big enough for people to fit in the back comfortably.

Well I finally got my 05' STi last week, 34,000 out the door, and all I can say is WOW. Its a super fun car to drive. Actually its a little too fast. Like it's really hard to tell yourself to keep it under 4,000 rpms for the first 1,000 miles. Me and my buddy got it up to 130 on the night I got it. That was at around 5,400 rpms in 6th gear with about 1500 to go before the 7,000 redline. The spedometer says 160 but there is a governor that stops at around 155. But hey 160 stock isn't bad at all.

Everyone wants to race. I feel bad for the civics and celicas that have 150HP and wanna face off.. I usally let them hang for awhile at like 90 in 5th and then drop in into 4th and come close to redline and then go to 5th. By this time the turbo kicks in at around 5500. Imagine going 80 into turns in 6th and kicking it into 4th at the end and accelerating out doing 90. Thats the Sti. Great stability and the AWD and suspension make it all possible.

This car is the "REAL DEAL".. a Beast man haha! but yea if you're lookin for an attractive car that is practical and fun to drive with a lot of balls, get the STi. The Evo MR can hang but its more expensive and marked up over MSRP. Just awesome.

Yeah I was looking at a RSX type S too, but the STi looks hella fun to drive. But in that range you can also get a 350z. I like hatchbacks cuz you can put surfboards in them easy lol, prolly gonna get a rsx.

STi's are hot stuff man. A girl I know is supposed to be getting one soon, so when she does I'll have to go ripping around in it.

When I get some cash though, I think I'll buy an older sports car and pimp it out. I'm really fond of those old Datsun 240Z's, so I might have to buy one and drop a V8 or a turbo 6 in it :)

I drove one-they're fair. Sure they have a bunch of power-but its a turbocharged 4 cylinder. They run rediculous amounts of boost: I cant see them running more than 75000 miles before blowing seals. It's just not wholesome to put an engine under that much stress. Besides, STI owners seem to think that because they can go out and buy 300 horsepower, it somehow makes them better than the guy that can only afford a honda or nissan and builds 150hp with his own hands-a fact that is very far from the truth. I'm not saying this is you-I trust you're a cool guy. It just bugs me when I see guys in evos and STIs calling civics and preludes pieces of **** when they are actually the @sshole in this situation.
(BTW, im not defending hondas, I drive a BMW, but you get my point.)

A-friggin-men, brother. I probably wouldn't stand a chance against an STI but my Rex is a testament to my sweat and toil, not some boardroom of egghead Japs halfway around the world.

I love the little jap racer coupes, I actually wanted the RSX for a LONG time.. also love Preludes but they are hard to find on this island. but yea I aint trying to put anyone down, I'm just stoked to be driving a nice car for the first time in my life. and ur driving a Beamer? Niiiiiice... maybe someday in the U.S. or when I get stationed in Germany.. Beamers are sweet

Repeat,

where in Hawaii? I'm on Oahu, been out here for like 20 months now in the Army. I've got another 16 months and then I leave(starts crying lol).. but yea Hawaii is definitely da Kine! so where do u surf? I mostly stick to the south shore or the mello north spots.. let me know.. peace

an STI in hawaii? Man, that must be the hottest car on the island...

@chin-hey, my friend has a rex. I just helped him do the b16 or v16 engine swap, whatever it's called. With that engine and springs, its a little monster. I was almost tempted to get one, but it's small and cramped, and I'll take the slight drop in preformance over his car for the incredible increase in comfort in mine.

SurfsupinHawaii...

Welcome to the club...I have an 2005 WRB STi w/ silver BBS (run black rota boosts in the winter). This car is no joke, better than an WRX, as I owned 2003 WRX with a cobb stage 1 flash for 40 K miles. The WRX is a great car esp with a stg 1 flash and nice 17' summer wheelset.

Word of advice for WRX owners, get some more anti-theft features. For the 2005 STi, the new microchip in the key linked to the engine immobolizer far from fool proof. I should know. Be Careful as All those hating, criminal types will like to screw around with your ride. I have paid the price before and am paying it again.

Not better than an MR, I would say the STi is a hair better, check out the article

"Why Do These Similar Cars Feel So Different by Car and Driver":

http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=4&article_id=9052&page_number=1

Oh yeah, its not only 300 hp but the 300 ft torque at 4 K and flat torque curve that makes it a beast.

SurfsupinHawaii...shift 1-2 at redline, other gears shift at 6 K for best acceleration.

Big-Eee_Zee: a Fair car ? Please, The STi has never been referred to as a fair car. It has been compared exotics in terms of performance. It offers BMW M3 level of performance stock...flash the ECU and and turboback and it wil
run with a C6 vette. About the motor: it is quite stout and very-well enginerred with forged pistons and rods, plus it only runs 14.5 psi stock, the stock EVO runs up to 19.5.

The Quote below is taken from the article:
Ward's 10 YEARS OF 10 Best Engines. Feb 1, 2004.

"In the lightweight Impreza WRX STi, this engine exhibits truly violent performance. Sixty mph (97 km/h) arrives in 4.8 secs., so wave bye-bye to the Porsche 911 and stay neck-and-neck with Corvette. We told you this engine was strong.

This engine's best trick is the one it's bought for: otherworldy acceleration at almost any speed. It's one of the most exciting engines available in the U.S. at any price. Its relative affordability only underscores its brilliant performance and technical sophistication."

You mean an old school CRX with a b16 engine swap ?

REX can also mean Subaru WRX.

I agree whatever you drive take pride in what you got, and don't diss the other rides. There is always something better or faster out their. So Enjoy your ride!

Hahahaha....that's great man, absolutly priceless.

I like civics, preludes, exc. But usually guys that drive these think their cars are the best and always pull up beside you. So most of them get what's coming to them. On the other hand if you think your just bad arse because you have a car that comes stock with 300 horses then that's stupid.

I can vouch for this. I got to ride in a EVO, those things are supersweet and fast. That was untill the guy I was riding with pulled up beside a chick in a 350z twin turbo....let's say she handed us our arses on a silver platter.

Ever since then i've wanted an EVO, I say the subaru sti would be just as fun to drive I like the body stile of the EVO better though.

Yup, I live on Oahu. I go to south shore spots but when I got time I go to Sandys. If I got a lot of time, I go to the NS when I can handle the size. Once you go to the north shore, you realize that town cannot even compare lol...i wanna go.
