here is a post by a woman from another message board....
Mr Braces has offered to help me with my car (I had to take it into service today) and I told him it would be way too much trouble for him and far out of his way. "No trouble at all" he said though of course I made previous arrangements to take care of it myself. He's like this about a lot of things though. A gentleman to a T. Some of you may remember him taking my gum for me before dinner, pushing in the chair, opening the door (from behind me so I walk in first), paying for everything, and always making sure I'm comfortable.
I am enjoying it very much. I know that I love the whole, opening doors, pushing in chair stuff.. its all very romantic.
But I wonder why him offering to help me out with the car is such a bother. Not that its literally a bother - but I can sense that it turns me off a little bit.
Why does that turn us off?
How many times in the past have I wished that a boyfriend at the time could help me with something but didn't? How many times have I cursed myself for not having someone dependable in my life. Someone as dependable and helpable as I am to others.
So while its a little bit of a turn off, and Im not even sure why, I am totally going to turn that energy around and try to appreciate that here is a guy whos willing to put himself out there for me possibly more so than most guys have in the past. I like it. And I want to like him.
But why again do favors like this turn women off? - Generally speaking. (And Im only using my case scenario for an example)
