Remember that your blood-niccotene levels have a 2 hour half life. That means, every 2 hours, the amount of niccotene in your blood is halved. After 72 hours, you no longer have niccotene - nor does your body crave it. After that it's only your mind that has yet to accept the change from smoker to ex-smoker.

Get rid of the mentality that you'll ever be a non-smoker. You never will. One puff for you will be enough to reawaken that smoking beast in you, whereas a non-smoker could take a puff, cough, and not have any effects. You can only be an ex-smoker now.

Oh... and here's a mentality tip:

DO NOT tell yourself "I will never smoke" or "I quit forever", cause then, where's the room to celebrate?

When you wake up in the morning tell yourself "I will NOT smoke TODAY". Don't worry about tomorrow, take it one day at a time. At the end of the day, allow yourself a celebration and a reward. Abstain from something you enjoy, and use it as a reward for not smoking, for example: chocolate or sweets, or a certain drink.

That should really simplify it for you.

Edit: Oh, let me also tell you about trigger caused cravings. I used to get 'em whenever I ordered another beer, for example. Or when a long time smoking buddy lit up. Remember, that these cravings only last 3 minutes. Avoid telling yourself no, as that'll make it mre difficult. Rather tell yourself: I'll light up in 5-10 minutes. With the mindset that you won't light up, you'll easily trick yourself into not smoking. As the craving will have already passed.

Haha. Excellent pointers people. I definitely wasn't aware of the info Keeper mentioned. I'm sure this thread is gonna point DJ smokers toward the right direction. Propz to Rollo for starting it.

As for the physical aspect of the addiction, I know drinking tea has helped out a lot. When I find myself with nothing to do I'll go make a cuppa. It's a bit more expensive than toothpicks, but it's within my budget lol.

I'm still craving like hell after a meal and early in the morning, but I'm not gonna buy another pack of cigs. This'll be my last.

I was using toothpicks last time I quit. They do help a lot! :) And I also relate to what Afr0 said about conditioning yourself to hate cigarettes. It's very effective.

Another thing is not to be deterred when you fail. I had at least 10 relapses when I tried to quit last time, but I kept trying and so far so good.

Even if you fail, keep it in your mind that you want to quit and keep trying. Realizing you want to stop is probably the biggest step of all.

tooth picks may be the best idea i've seen in here yet. i love to smoke, it gives you a break in the work day and something to do when you're bored. i really love one after i eat. i love to smoke and i love to eat red meat, sh*t, there's no sense in me even trying to quit......problem is i figure i'm young enough to smoke now and quit later. i can still run 3 miles at a time, so why quit?

I have to disagree. That kind of thiking there makes me feel like: "It's ok, I can fail to qiut - I'll get another chance." That's a no no. It's not OK to fail - it's a freakin' disaster. :/

Well, maybe now you can... pretty soon, you won't be able to, and you'll wish you quit earlier. :/ Now that my lungs are ****ed it's 10 times harder to restore 'em, 10 times harder to run those 3 miles. Yeah... And it would have been 10 times easier to quit back then.

Good luck, all you quitters out there. ;)

lol. Yeah, I know what you're saying mate. I'm not making it easy for myself. I live by myself, party every weekend and I'm not doing much these days.

Up in Cali, I have a business to occupy my time, I live with my folks, I can't smoke inside and I don't have a social life whatsoever. I'll find some health freak HB and get her to move in while I'm down under. That'll keep me away from those death sticks.

That or I become a Jedi and mindtrick myself.
