Kobe is the MVP...and a legend in the making

what about them lakers, eh? most people doubted they would last the first round, and now they're about to knock the suns the heck out. i am convinced they will last much longer than round 1. phil jackson is an amazing coach.

they don't get enough credit. everyone (i guess the masses who don't know crap about bball) thinks that lakers were only good because of shaq-kobe, etc. shaq is waay overrated, otherwise heat would have been in the finals with that logic. phil jackson is the mastermind here.

dude, i have been a lakers fan since grade school. after the thing fell apart when shaq and jackson left, it became a one-man team like the 76ers. but now, they're doing what the pistons did that year when brown led them to the finals win. they're playing like a TEAM. everyone is contributing, and bench players who i thought sucked have improved a ton.

lakers are going to surprise a lot of people this year from under the radar. other than kobe, the other starters barely have any playoff experience, and little nba experience compared to the suns. but look at how well they've come together.

lakers will go far this year...heck i wouldn't be surprised if we won another title if they keep up this excellent game play.

as for that dunk...when i saw that the other night, i swear that guy can fly or something. unbelievable talent.

Kobe bryant is a little brat. Look how this guy came into the lead no rookie has every seen the red carpet rolled out from the like kobe Bryant just because of his dads connections. A team full of ill verterans Shaq , Elden Campbell, Glen Rice, Eddie jones, Nick the quick. This ho ass rookie gets to do whatever he wants, plays heavy minutes and throws up buzzer beating bricks every night. And then they trade all those players just to make way for him, get the fvck outa here. Look what happen when he ass fvcked that white girl he’s like “every body does it, karl malone had nuff girl” like a little bltch. All admit the guy can play ball but he’s immature and could have got his team involved all season instead of just playoffs.

Anbody who thinks Nash didn’t earn that MVP title is foolish especially after how he played last year in the playoffs after Stoudamire went down. Oh yea and the Kobe dunk was a charge and you guys know it.

Let me be the third person to say "Charge". But you aren't going to get that call in the NBA against Kobe Bryant.

Most people doubted the Lakers would even make the playoffs, let alone make it to round 2. Now thanks to the true MVP, the Lakers will advance and Nash will look like a fool as he gets his undeserved trophy.

Nash is a great player, but he's not much better than Jason Kid or John Stockton. He does not deserve to go into the hall of fame with company like Magic, Bird, and MJ with back to back MVPs. Meanwhile, Kobe is having an NBA record breaking season, he got his team to the playoffs when everyone thought this would be a rebuilding season for the Lakers, and the rest of a very inexperienced team is having career record seasons as well, thanks to Kobe. Did you guys even see game 3 last night? 3 Lakers got double doubles, and Kobe wasn't one of them.

the Kobe dunk was a charge and you guys know it.

I was about to say the same thing. Nash's feet were set.
No fvcking way were his feet set. Watch the gif again. He literally moved in place while Kobe was in the air.

ShyRyder, your arguements have nothing to do with what makes a MVP candidate.

The refs hate Kobe Bryant. You obviously weren't paying attention a couple of months ago when Kobe would only get a couple foul calls a game. Or all season long while Kobe got unnecessary technicals.

I agree about Kobe being more mvp-worthy than Nash, but his feet were so set on that dunk. Kobe hits him full-speed in the chest with his hip. His head snaps back. It sends him flying backwards.

Here is a better clip showing that it was a charge.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZcvbRpNpHM&search=kobe dunk over nash

MVP- stands for most valuable player and not best basketball player. I agree that Kobe and Lebron are better players but they don't make those around them better like Nash does and in basketball this is a team concept not individual. Yes they do have inflated scoring stats but so does A.I and with all his scoring Philadelphia didn't make it to the postseason.

well with that logic, basically you're saying neither clevland or lakers will make it far because their teams rely on heavy game play and scoring from one player. yet they're both leading in their series'

and with that logic your saying the suns would beat the lakers because nash makes the players around him better. ironically, i think kobe is doing a much better job at just that in this series.

i think that was a charge too, but kobe can still fly and that was a play to remember.

Ultimately neither the Lakers or the Suns are important because the Spurs own the west...again.

I'll never understand a lot of the basketball stuff. I just don't see what's so "bad" about someone dunking with an opposing player in front of him. If you want to watch impact, why not a boxing match? And if you want to watch hard hitting posterizing, watch an NHL playoff game.

What you guys are not understanding is that is NOT how the mechanics of a charge work. A charge is not based on how much the defender is pushed back. A charge only occures when the players feet are set BEFORE the opposing player is in a shooting motion. In the clip I posted, pay less attention to the action more attention to their feet. Watch Nash's left foot. It is not even planted at the time that Kobe is in the air, let alone in a shooting motion.

I'm not just siding with Kobe because I'm a fan; the refs made the correct call. If you understand the rules, this is an obvious blocking foul.

DJDamage, your clip is a horrible example to prove either a charge or blocking foul. Brown is blocking any view of the players' feet. The fact that you think this "proves" that it is a charge only demonstrates your lack of understanding of the rules.

Here's the official rule from nba.com

Blocks/Charge: A block/charge foul occurs when a defender tries to get in front of his man to stop him from going in that direction. If he does not get into a legal defensive position and contact occurs, it is a blocking foul. If he gets to a legal position and the offensive player runs into him it is an offensive foul. In both situations, if the contact is minimal, no foul may be called. To get into a legal position defending against the dribbler, the defender just needs to get in front of him. On a drive to the basket, the defender must get to his position before the shooter starts his upward shooting motion. For most other cases, the defender must get into position and allow enough distance for the offensive player to stop and/or change direction.

Steve Nash prefers passing to shooting. Kobe Bryant prefers losing to passing.

I guess that's why Kobe only scored 17 points in game 3 and his team won?

Yeah don't get your hopes up. The spurs bench players could be starters on a variety of teams in the league and that's what sets them apart from the rest of the western conference ie they don't NEED there stars to score more then 20 points a game to win.
