So a famous Canadian Politician has died. Jack Layton. A leader, a father, a person who has changed the face of politics for Canada. or so people have told me.

Anyway, i dont follow politics and I posted this on my facebook status:

Stop updating your facebook status. You never cared or even heard of Jack Layton untill today.

As soon as I posted, people started to attack my opinion saying, where is my compassion. why are you being a jerk. your status is disgusting and distasteful.

thats great they have their own opinion but thats not what this thread is about.

I fully believe that people love to follow other people or at least they seem to be what the "in" crowd is doing. I for one, hate following other people, I dislike following trends. I did it before in grade school to fit in. Now, f*ck following other people I do my own sh*t.

Now what I said in facebook status I will stick to it. I'm not backing down even though my friends or acquaintances dont agree what I have to say. I'm not going to back peddle, Im not going to delete my comments. im going to leave my status update for everyone to see.

my question to you guys is that am I being naive in believing that sticking to what I say is true to me is the better way? or should I just apologize and take back for what I have said for being insensitive and a d*ick. (your opinions will not matter in the end, but I just want to see what you guys have to say)

95% of people is made of followers, 5 of leaders and among that 5% of leader half of them are fine by themselves.

And this is the best way, imagine how much struggles we would have if the population was made of leaders, the crowd offers you protection but at the same time demands you to conform and limit your initiative.
Once you're inside, the crowd has his way to make sure you conform, be it shaming or insults.

I used to be known for my controversial status updates, be it politics, my mysoginy, or just a radical oppinion in general. I pissed a lot of people off, especially one I made telling pregnant or woman with kids to stop updating every 20 mins about their kids because no one gives a fvck. I always stood by my oppinion though and people hated that. Now people dont have to deal with my sh!t because i deleted my fb. Not because of what people thought of me, I just got tired of reading all the feminist garbage, which I always felt the need to attack anyway. Now I get to save my breath.

Pick your battles. Stand by your opinions, but don't seek out fights.
Law 38: Think as you like but Behave like others

If you make a show of going against the times, flaunting your unconventional ideas and unorthodox ways, people will think that you only want attention and that you look down upon them. They will find a way to punish you for making them feel inferior. It is far safer to blend in and nurture the common touch. Share your originality only with tolerant friends and those who are sure to appreciate your uniqueness.

I deleted my FB account. THere's too much information floating around out there as it is.

OP part of your life strategy should be evaluating how FB comments can come back to bite you, and sometimes very hard. Potential employers, etc. are going to be looking you up. Do you want controversial statements that you have made publically written in stone? I know I don't.

I personally don't try to go against the grain just for the sake of going against. If it profits me, fine. If keeping my mouth shut profits me, I usually do that. Keeping my mouth shut usually does profit me.

Agreed. Fortunately for me I've always used an alias. My first name combined with my middle name. Unless you went to high school with me, my middle name is my last name. It was part of the process I went through when I had my awakening and started "shedding" the old me. Most employers you can usually just initial it, which is what I've always done anyway. I've ran my full name on Google before, there's nothing on me.

But to follow up what I said to the OP. You really shouldn't give a fvck. You are thinking outside the box, and challenging peoples beliefs. The average person is afraid of people like you. If their weren't people constantly questioning, challenging, and exposing things people didn't want to hear then we wouldn't have half the knowledge or amazing technological advances that we do today. People got burned at the stake for claiming that the earth wasn't the center of the universe. Most early scientists were considered "insane" because they challenged what was the "norm", and often died never seeing their theory come into fruition or scientifically proven because it wasn't proved until years and years later. These people were ahead of their time. They were brilliant. If you believe in something, stand by it. It doesn't mean you're always right, but at least you have the courage to stand up for what you believe in. Fvck what everyone else thinks.

I agree with you Scars.

I live that way myself, however, I use other people's insights to my advantage. In other words, I don't stick to my guns just for the sake of being right. I will always consider other views, but I also consider the source. Other views can have the effect of keeping one from going off the deep end, becoming a loose cannon or a rebel without a cause.

When I have made my decision and I know it's right for me, I will stick with it until the death, unless someone shows me a tangible reason why I should change my course of action. I am the final arbitor. Other opinions are what I use as a system of checks and balances to make sure I have perspective.

Actually I would say there is a decent % that are neither.

There's something to be said for sticking to your guns. But the man really did have a way of connecting with people, do you really think it's all attention-*****dom?

Anyway, I think the real problem is anyone giving that much of a **** about their e-drama on facebook.
