Great! Maybe they can nullify the Civil Rights Act too. Man, we gonna party like it's 1965.

Good for South Carolina, I hope other states follow their example.

Obamacare will sweep through the nation and many citizens will like it. People trying to block it need to stop wasting everyones time with this blockade garbage. It wont work, so why waste the energy?

The same can be said of your feeble efforts to promote homosexuality and socialism on this forum. It won't work, so why waste the energy?

Considering the GREAT numbers of Americans signing up for Obamacare willingly, it should compute.

Nothing to do with borg.

All to do with using ones time more wisely.

The Obamacare battle was lost by those against it long ago. Theres no fight anymore. Obama won that fight. People need to just deal with it and move on. The ACA aint going anywhere.

Who cares about political beliefs "working" on a pickup forum? This forum isnt about left and right. Its about getting women, despite what a lot of right wingers try and do here.

Interesting how there are great numbers that have signed up for Obamacare, but the government refuses to actually reveal those numbers. I wonder what they are hiding.

In terms of web traffic, initial reports of 5 million+ visitors turned out to be only in the thousands. But even assuming that (incorrect) 5.7 million number, not many signed up:

Can you guys explain to me what's wrong with the affordable care act?

I heard that health care bills acount for 46 percent of bankruptcy in USA.

Considering the massive price accosiated with health care perhaps this is a good thing.

It's not a horrible idea in theory, but there's just no money to pay for it. Obama wants everyone without private insurance to go onto Medicaid, which is the program for the poorest people to get health care. The problem is that Medicaid is already broke. Doctors are supposed to get reimbursed by the state for treating Medicaid patients. In my area, the state is already over three years behind in making those payments to the doctors. They are currently offering about 10% as a lump sum settlement to the Docs, and that is 10% of a bill rate that was already reduced to less than half of what private insurance pays. Many specialist physicians are simply refusing to treat Medicaid patients, because the doctors know they will likely never get paid for their work.

Obama is blaming Doctors for a lot of the health care mess. Of course he and Michelle both have law degrees, not MDs, which makes them blind to the damage that lawyers are doing with frivolous lawsuits. I know one Doc right now who is absolutely one of the best around at what he does. He performs $10,000 surgeries all the time on people that he knows are never going to be able to pay him back. He is currently having to take a month off work to go to court for a malpractice suit. The basis of the claim is that, after breaking his arm and getting a cast put on, then ignoring all advice, never going back to the doctor's office again and cutting the cast off himself at home...now the guy's arm hurts. What a surprise. That is a $500,000 lawsuit that is going all the way to a jury trial. They offered $25,000 as a settlement to avoid trial, which is itself ridiculous, and the guy refused.

To add to what Bible Belt said, at its core, Obamacare is a wealth redistribution scheme that aims to take money from [predominately white] middle class people and give it to [predominately black and latino] poor people. You don't need a degree political science to figure out why it would be unpopular with the former and popular with the latter.

Thanks for the explanation guys.

It's hard for me to comment on the matter really because I'm pretty much unaffected.

But maybe the government should regulate the hospitals themselves.

Are non profit hospitals an option?

Because there must be some people that are making massive profits in the health care industry.

Besides the lawyers, pharmaceutical companies come to mind. As just one example, there is a very common heartburn/stomach acid medication called 'Nexium.' It's $200 for a tiny one-month bottle, and a little less than half of that price if you have insurance. I looked up the active ingredient, and I can buy a 50-gallon drum of the stuff for less than $200, which would be enough for ten lifetimes. But that would be illegal due to patent laws. The drug companies have higher profit margins than the Colombian cocaine cartels.
