Over the summer I will be living with my folks who are vegetarian, so I will not be able to cook meat.

What are cheap, healthy sources of red meat? I don't want to eat fast foods because I want to avoid trans fats. I'm considering getting that canned beef and chicken they have at costco.

Thoughts?

Question not really clear.

Most vegetarians I know are pretty cool about not imposing their lifestyle on you, ie, if you wanna eat meat they don't care if you do it in front of them. Surely your parents will not mind if you cook meat in their kitchen? Or are you trying to avoid cooking entirely? Will your parents cook meat for you if you hate the kitchen?

There are lots of pre-seasoned uncooked meats that you can buy, from roasts to faitas, etc, but you will need to use your parent's oven.

Sure there are lots of pre-cooked choices out there, but to subsist on that entirely through the summer would be kind of tiring, to me.

I'm doing it out of respect. Maybe I can talk to them into letting me cook meat, but I know how uncomfortable it makes them feel.

canned chicken & tuna from costco/sam's/bjs are two good paces to start.

What about red meat? Does the meat lose anything significant in the canning process?

Yeah, I like canned beef (mine is canned with gravy), it tastes damn good. I doubt they lose anything, it's probably not highly processed mate :)

And it makes you really uncomfortable not to eat meat and it's seriously hampering your lifestyle. What kind of parents are they?

2 sides of coin dude.

not sure. but to get meat of that consistency i have to braise it for quite a while, so some micronutrients may get drained away.

Its their house so I should live by their rules. If it were my house, then it will be my rules. If I were still a kid and still living there, then it would my house too and I would have a say on what the house rules are.

Again, I might be able to talk them into it, but I feel that I should consider all my options before imposing something onto them.

I just got off the phone with my parents,
I said "mrRuckus is eating more meat"
My parents replied "We are very offset"

My uninformed contention is that you can grow eating dog food or hot dogs if you have enough stimulus. :)

Some of the canned meats probably have pretty high salt content.

This is as wrong as the day is long. EVERYTHING canned is loaded with sodium. Which not only kills any fvcking flavor you may enjoy it fvcking kills your guts. You can get plenty of protein from fish. If you like red meat, go for the loin of tuna. Your local fishmonger can help you with that. If you're a steak man like I am, then you're going to have to suck it up and tell the folks you need to have it and cook it. Or if you're crafty you can buy a cheap hibachi grill and fry the fvcker outside. Tastes better too. Gotta love charred animal. mmmm, hhmmm!

Buy a mini-fridge, store your meat in it and keep it in your room. Dont bother them with whats inside and put a lock on it.

one summer of canned meat isn't going to kill anyone, especially if he's getting lots of fresh (as opposed to canned) veggies & fruit, which i can only assume will be part of living with committed vegetarians.
