I'm looking to possibly get a part-time job in addition to my 9-5 that focuses on developing social skills, marketing, sales, networking, and primarily working with people face-to-face. Basically public relations of sorts. The money I get from it is secondary to what I want to learn from it. I was thinking some sort of promotional work. I contemplated bartending, but upon further thinking it probably won't do a whole lot for me. Does anyone here have what they would consider a "social networking/public relations" job or could recommend one?

My part time job is basically everything you just described - Bank Teller. Basically im standing at a computer for hours on end carrying out peoples financial transactions, as well as trying to help save them money and solve their problems. You basically speak with random people for hours on end (Face to face). Its good networking because you get to know people within the banking network, as well as opportunity to move up. There is definately a sales aspect of it as well, offering people visas, accounts, loans, LOC's etc. You should look into man

Sales, sales, and sales. And if those don't work out, try some kind of sales job.

Get one of those sales job trying to sign people up for cell phone plans or something, or some weekend comissioned sales job at the mall or something.

Like at circuit city (or some place like that that ain't out of business.) anything retail/sales/commissions is good.

easy to get, but hard to make money out. Try and find one where you have to go out into the general population and open strangers to make money.

I worked as a model scout for a while. The company was a scam, but the experience was priceless.

Re: model scout job

It was a big scam, we'd go out and recruit girls, of all ages, and they'd come in and pay big cash to put their bio-stats into a national "database" that was supposedly tapped by all kinds agencies that wanted fresh talent.

We'd head out every day with a stack of business cards, and try to get as many girls to come in for an "appointment," where all kinds of photos and stuff would be taken, and then in a couple days later a "counselor" would recommend the "package" that would get them the most "exposure."

The counselor was nothing more than a hard hitting closer.

For everyone that signed, we got a healthy commission.

I couldn't do it for very long. The look of all those people got to me. Just sitting there (some even parents with their little kids) hoping to get "discovered," only to get scammed out of several hundred dollars.

It was good for walking up girls in groups, pairs, by themselves, and trying to convince them to come in for a "shoot."

Probably still around, just google "model scout."

You'll be scamming people, but you'll be getting paid to do cold walkups and improve your closing skills.

Gotcha .. I don't think I'd want to do that. I'm considering get a certification for personal training. I'm a non-competitive bodybuilder and have been training for years so I do know a good deal about health, exercise, and nutrition ... just not from a formal education. Personal training might be a good social job, no?

well, you could always be a club photographer for a website. You get to meet tons of people every night you go out and you most likely will get a couple girlfriends out of it who call you every time they want to go do something.

The only catch is that you can't be shy and you have to approach groups. Can pay well if you stick with it. Well, and you have to buy a professional camera...

Interesting idea. The other thing I should mention is that I want a socially developing part time job so I can make some new friends. Hardly anyone at my 9-5 hangs out together (most have girlfriends or wives) and it's 99% guys with just a handful around my age. There's 1 dude I hang out with regularly (really cool guys but kinda strange), and 1-2 who sometimes join us. That's the extent of my friends right now, which sucks - so I need to change that too.

I thought of joining some sort of club or function, but not sure what. I have maybe 3 hours a night on weeknights after I get back from the gym (8pm or later) for anything before I go to bed, though my weekends are flexible.

If you're attractive and have a good build, consider stripping. Its the easiest cash you'll ever make. Its a totally fun job, especially if you're single, and the cash is sick. I make an average of 200 cash for like a 20-30 minute show. If you have 3-4 shows in one night, you can easily pull 800-1000+ cash in one night. Its got the best stress:cash ratio of any job that I can think of! Its all tax free too, and its instant cash in your pocket, for basically partying and entertaining women!

Its a great job for having tons of fun, and supplementing your income.

Heh, yes I'm attractive and have a good build (bodybuilder), but stripping isn't for me. I understand it's good money but it's not something I'd like to be associated with. I'm heading out to some gyms around the area now. As for the model scout idea, not sure I can do that either ... I wouldn't feel right.

i just started my lifestyle consulting business. mainly i help guys increase their chance of success in dating/confidence/ and help them develop goals/drives/passion. We talk about girls, work, life, anything. It's alot of fun sometimes stressful writing up plans since it's still a start up but it's definately a part time job that could turn full time that is fun and exciting. Plus its nice when my clients offer to hook me up with events and things related to their profession/skills.
