Supposedly compared to Vista, Windows 7 is supposed to be like a viagra boost up from that in PC performance.

Every less second of loading time matters to me so I can't wait for this bad boy to get my nerd on.

Though yeah all the backing up I had to do was a b!tch.

Its amazing how much useless junk as well useful junk you can accumulate on a PC thats only a year old.

Anywho for some useless data I'll be buying the full version and going 64 bit but if you got Vista and don't want to do a clean sweep of your system for a fresh install you can just install an upgrade Version of Windows 7 over your Vista OS and it will automatically keep all of your files and various important saved items.

Why do you want to go 64 bit? Serious question.

I don't think I'll buy it. I'm really happy with Vista. I don't play games or anything.

Sometimes I use computational software that does eat some resources but other than that the speed is fine.

I'm also running a 2 year old laptop that was crap when I bought it.

I might put it on my old laptop that is currently running XP. Runs great but I am curious about Windows 7. My current laptop runs Vista and only had an issue after installing an update. If I get W7 it will be driven by curiosity not an issue with Vista or XP.

Not getting Windows 7, probably never will. I run Ubuntu Linux and I'm stoked about version 10.04 coming out in April.

Now THAT is getting your nerd on :D

I'm also excited for the Haiku OS project that's currently in Alpha. I may dual-boot with it once an official release comes out. It'll be the most PC-efficient OS out there, fantastic for doing things like A/V editing and watching movies.

Use Vista 64-bit right now. I don't see any reason to upgrade, based on the new features. Vista will also get DX11. Vista boots plenty fast, and boot time is generally only a concern for someone who reboots frequently. I'll sometimes use the same boot 3-4 days.

64-bit is the current recommend version simply because it is so capable. 64-bit incompatibilities are so 2007. Vista being known as a buggy/bad OS is also so 2007.

"Why do you want to go 64 bit? Serious question."

I'm a power user. I use lots of programs and am always opening and closing windows and leaving my browser up for long periods of time, the programs I use also include videogames so I need a lot of RAM to keep this badboy Dell XPS 630i gaming computer running at top speed and efficiency.

A 32 bit version of Vista isn't going to cut it for the long haul as 32 bit operating system's only recognize a bit over 3GB of RAM whereas 64 bit operating systems recognize a whole lot more.

So I want to max my system out and make it last for as long as possible and to do that I'm going to bump its 4GB of RAM up to 8GB.

I'm going with Windows 7 64 bit as opposed to Vista 64 bit because everyone is saying Windows 7 has less useless background junk installed in it then Vista does which is part of the reason its a faster more efficient OS. Others have also noted it runs games more smoothly than Vista which is highly important to me. So its an efficiency thing basically but on a personal note I always do love to stay as up to date as possible on things and Windows 7 will be the most up to date Microsoft browser I can get obviously. Plus the fact that wordpad has been improved (among other programs) as well the new browser features added to it let you do a lot more and quicker at that, so all these little things add up to make an irresistable operating system for me.

Just to state my opinions on Vista though I'm certainly not a hater of it. For its time Vista has served me well but then again I started using it after it was all patched up as well I had 4GB of RAM to start with so all of this combined to give me a better experience than the early adopters that came to loathe it and who got rid of it and went back to XP.

I'm running on Windows 7 Beta now. Seems fine, so I'll upgrade to it.

Do you run Unbuntu in Gnome or KDE? I like the slick look of KDE but I found Gnome a lot more intuitive and easier to use.

Pretty much what Luthor said except I'm running the RC edition; which is what Luthor is probably using ;)

I've been using Windows 7 ever since the first beta was publicly available. I like it much more than Vista. Aside from the miscellaneous improvements over Vista, 7 also gives me an extra 30 minutes of battery life on my laptop.

If I remember correctly the RC edition is good till June of next year. So I don't have to upgrade till then.

I'll probably be moving to 64 bit as well when 10.04 comes out. Adobe has put out a 64 bit version of Flash for Linux (which is what I was waiting for.) The Windows and Mac versions don't exist yet.

64 bit has matured much faster on Linux than any other platform.

I'm using Gnome with Compiz. I've had issues with KDE being a bit buggy for me, although I like the KDE apps much more than the crummy Gnome ones. Thank god they're (mostly) compatible with each other.
