I'm just curious as to whom the musicians are on here. I'm a guitarist/musician. I also play the drums, piano, bass, sing, etc. Technically, I could say that I play the xylophone just because it has the same principles as piano only with long wooden blocks instead along with sticks.

I've played music since I was four. I play entirely by ear. I compose from my head. Recently, I've started writing a caprice maybe or possible etude for the violin in D major.

Any other DJ musicians? What do you play? Band? Style of music? How long?

Xylophone is fun! I used to take marimba lessons and came up with some real interesting stuff on it. Who are your influences? I've been really digging some of Chopin's nocturnes lately, that guy could compose some beautiful ****.

Drums are my main instrument. I play drums for the band Faint of Heart:

It's a pretty cool blend of emo punk and metal that's also interesting musically and a challenge to play.

I also play guitar, piano, bass, and various percussion instruments but none of them as well as the drums. My influences range from Dream Theater, Coheed and Cambria, U2, Opeth, Finch, Megadeth, Chili Peppers, to classical and ethnic music(Irish and West African particularly). Music is pretty much my life

Looks like you and I share a deep passion for music. Guitar is my mine instrument. Right now, I've been playing some Paginini lately.

My influences are all over the place. I listen to everything both for enjoyment and for influence on my creativity and style. I listen to metal, rock, classical, blues, jazz, some R and B, and even rap.

I have influences and bands that I listen to ranging from Metallica, Opeth, Nevermore, Fear Factory, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Meshuggah, to Katatonia, The Used, The Early November, Waking Ashland, Brand New, Guns N Roses, to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jason Becker, Stanley Jordan, Shawn Lane, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, to Mozart, Franz Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovski, and Beethoven.

Yes, I'm all over the place.

Another guitarist here. Playing for 14 years, mostly classical/spanish/latin. I'm currently working on a master's in guitar and ethnomusicology. Lot of work, but it's all stuff I enjoy doing. Good to know there are more hardcore musicians here.

Might you have any recordings of your playing that can be uploaded? I'd love to hear your playing.

Personally, I play the cello. Im currently in the college applications process, and although I have no interest in majoring in music (hence schools like julliard are outta the picture), I do plan on using recordings and live auditions as a major factor in my application. Currently in 2 orchestras, won some local young artists festivals, did a tv recording, and soloed in eastern europe. Im far from professional playing, and there are plenty of unbelievable musicians in my area.

I have much respect for classical guitarists(and classical musicians in general). There's so much exact technique that needs to go into that stuff to make it sound the way it should. Classical guitar is probably my favorite "sound" to come from any instrument!

Did you find that majoring in an instrument hampered your love of playing it? I was a percussion major for 2 semesters and it literally made me sick of playing the drums. Something about being graded on in just killed the enjoyment for me completely. But I guess going for your master's it must not be that much of a deterrent!

MY reality
About 6 months ago, I realized that music was my passion. Currently I play guitar, piano, and harmonica.

I love blues, classic/hard rock and 70's punk. I also like a little jazz, country(REAL country, like Johnny Cash, not the fake mainstream country of today) and hip-hop from time to time.

I'm also taking some music theory classes, and they're a real *****. To be honest, they kinda take the fun out of music. I'm really just in it to learn progressions and scales better so I can start wailing bluesy guitar solos all over the place like SRV.

Musician? I'm your man

I play bass for the Dallas, Texas based band, Utica. If you go to www.myspace.com/utica you can give us a listen. I promise you'll like it, and if not you'll at least respect it!!

Being a musician is the easiest way in the WORLD to pick up girls, especially after you've just played in front of hundreds of people and they all wanna talk to you. hahahaha

I just sing, but my sons both play guitar and my younger son also plays drums and trumpet. My older daughter is a Soprano and my 5 year old has a tendency to sing instead of talk...and in opera style. Not sure what's up with that...but anywho...I guess you could say my whole family is pretty musical.

At this point you probably have a woman (or multiple women) chasing you around, calling you all the time, wanting to be with you. So let's talk about how to KEEP a woman interested in you once you have her. This is BIG! There is nothing worse than getting dumped by a woman that you really, really like.

I've been playing forever. My parents put me into drum lessons in 1st grade, sax by 5th, at 14 I started on guitar, 25 started on bass and had played in bands for over 18 years. I had an opportunity to play with Roger Merit (Agnostic Front/The Disasters). Buddy of mine recorded with Sully from Godsmack (Sully laid down the drums on the albulm).

Music is great when it's local. Big time scene is all fvcked up and crazy. Too much BS to deal with if you're not selling a million records. I barely play anymore, but I like hitting smokey bars now and then with standard jazz & blues.
