EFFORT, Throttle, Stronglifts, MrR, Quagmire - if anyone can contribute with more pictures I'd appreciate it.

This is just a reminder to people who think having a big total will not equate with being damn big and strong. Powerlifters, Oly lifters and Strongmen all aim to shift big weights on basic exercises:

Powerlifters:

Hannah Johnson (just 'cause she's cool) -

Andy Fiedler (dieted down for a bbing show, he competes in pling offseason)

Dave Gulledge - http://www.t-nation.com/forum_images/1/1/.1122151094030.DSCN0115.JPG

I got more plers but I don't have anywhere to store the images so.. but search for Kyle Robertson, Travis Mash, Joe Ladnier..

(maybe Stronglifts can post some more here)

You can do all the 'shaping' moves you want and try to hit the muscle from every angle in the book and grow some - or you can just lift heavy weights and grow more.

And be stronger for it.

I actually thought of Gulledge earlier...

And Alex you forgot to include yourself on the list

Gulledge is in awesome shape. Don't you think a lot of these guys are seriously juicing though? For example, Andy Fiedler.

Quag, sumos rely on sheer anabolism through massive food consumption. They do carry more muscle than bbers or plers yeah. But that just highlights the anabolic properties of calories.

Hence why I'm asking you to eat a hell of a lot BUT do your cardio so it doesn't catch up with you. :D

I think we must increase your egg consumption.

Yeh I was gonna give it a week and if I hadn't gained enough then I was gonna bump it to 15. Going to be harder to go from 170 to 185, than it was from 155 to 170.

Ps-The great news is I've had four meals and I am still hungry :), although I suppose that would mean more calories...

Old old school:

Arthur Saxon:

*Something like a 100 years ago and I am sure he still holds a record.

Benedikt Magnusson :

I think if benni would still compete (hopefully he will soon) instead of doing strongman, he would have the deadlift world record. Was beating Bolton two years ago when he went into strongman and is at least 10 years younger if memory servers me correctly. Absolute freak. I mean he could deadlift 1200+ in 10 years or something.

What a stupid thread. He hasn't posted links of small guys who still shift decent weights for their size. Or fat powerlifters who don't aesthetically look good. Or BBers who shift way less weight than these guys but look a lot better with more mass, better proportions, etc. Very convenient.

There is no small guy that can lift as much as these guys!
Who cares if some powerlifters are fat! everyone knows it has nothing to do with the way they lift.

Better proportions? Those guys look better then most bodybuilders.

Small guys can still shift decent weights but curb calories to stay in their weight class. They choose to stay small for that reason, it is not the fault of their training (you can't grow without calories regardless of how neurally efficient you become).

The fat powerlifters you see mostly are in the SHW class where pure bodyweight matters more (for leverage). They choose to eat that way, their training does not make them fat.

Put a pler competing in the SHW class on a pre contest diet for a while, put him in a bodybuilding show and he'll hand the bbers their asses.

I read that guy could do pull-ups with only one finger on the bar, and all kinds of other crazy ****.

There's a core exercise I do sometimes called Saxon Side Bends, they are deceivingly difficult.

Yes I know about the small guys, as I said mass correlates with strength and reversely strength correlates with mass which is what I was talking about in Quag's thread, overload not the 'numbers itself' per se.

Yes I know fat powerlifters are fat due to diet, but their proportions aren't ideal either (even if they cut). They don't want sarcoplasmic hypertrophy really so that's evidence to support that their training won't yield optimal mass gains. (Which they don't care about).

Re your last point, utter BS. PLers wouldn't ever win a pro BBing competition or come close. It isn't their speciality and cut all the fat etc. and you're left with a lot less and sub-par proportions (arm to torso ratio etc). If it was true I'm sure some PLer would have done it by now. BBers at 20% BF would look enormous. At 5 % they look like what we see on stage.

This is my point, your thread is totally biased and BS. It doesn't support the idea that lifting for strength is the best way to get muscular. Because there are BBers who shift less and look better / carry more mass / better proportions. Why aren't you posting those vids?

because I'm not trying to prove that BBers grow from what they do. we all know that they do.

you are accusing powerlifters of having weak physiques, or less muscle mass, than bbers because of their way of training - I am answering.

What on earth is a shaping move? It either works the muscle or it doesn't, it doesn't somehow sculpt it magically. Here's option three: Lift heavy weights, use 2/3 angles and do low, med and high reps to cover all bases. See, we don't have to use some lame extreme to aid your arguments.

This is actually how many plers train (albeit they focus on movements and not angles) - and how Quagmire was training and you rubbished it.

btw you still haven't told us how many years of training you have under your belt to make your claims. nor your numbers or stats.

I'm accusing powerlifters of lifting for strength and saying that for muscle mass and aesthetic physiques it's BBers we need to look at. Stop washing over the details. Nobody ever says powerlifters suck or look bad or have less muscle. The point is it's sub-optimal for BBing. Period.

FYI I've trained seriously for one year now.
