It certainly takes a lot of guts to let the cat out of the bag, when most folks hold bags with cats. But dropping that bag sure does lower the weight load. I speak from experience.StoneColdFox said:Hopefully you're smart enough to be atheist lol.
Real atheists would understand that comment lol.
Are you sarging Bible thumpers?Indigo said:I'm an Atheist.
Is it safe to put it in my Facebook (myspace type of website) profile or will it scare people away?
How about when I'm asked about my religious views?
Who said I'm trying to to set false pretenses?azanon said:I would put it down if its actually true. I don't see how setting false pretenses is better, because your lie will eventually be discovered if a relationship starts. Besides, there might be that atheist hot chick out there looking for a guy she can identify with.
Are you a hard-core atheist? The reason I ask is because if you could truthfully say "agnostic" instead, its a bit more toned down and probably a bit more openly accepted. Agnostics are about 2 to 1 to atheists on myspace (i don't participate on facebook).
He's an athiest on Sundays and holidays!Indigo said:...What's a "hard-core atheist" anyway? haha
If you decide to go with something besides "atheist", when you are an atheist.... Me. I'm saying that in that case.Indigo said:Who said I'm trying to to set false pretenses?
Did i say that? You're being defensive on your own accord. So you're saying that only if you are a "hard-core christian" you are a real christian.. yeah right...
This is incorrect. An Atheist believes there is no God. An agnostic reserves judgement on the whole God issue. Thus, the agnostic is the only "religious position", if you will, that does not involve "belief" of any kind. Any questions? Most Atheists consider themselves Agnostic/Atheists because if you claim that you are 100% sure that there is no God you are basing that on faith something which Atheists (in general) don't have, because they don't make claims based on things they don't know.
There's one kind of atheist; those that believe there is no God. I reject the "weak" vs "strong" atheist positions because by those definitions, a "weak atheist" is just an agnostic in my opinion. What's a "hard-core atheist" anyway? haha
I don't know man, it's strange up here. A good portion of the women here feel that there would be major contention if you aren't of the same faith not even mentioning if you don't believe. They also feel the same way about political stance. Once they find out you're an Anarchist it's all over man....Roulette said:Nobody cares or even looks at it really.
Dude you really don't know what you are talking about.azanon said:This is incorrect. An Atheist believes there is no God. An agnostic reserves judgement on the whole God issue. 95% of Americans are 100% sure because only ~ 5% considered themselves agnostics. Now that's hard to believe!

If you don't want answers, don't come on here asking questions. You asked the question, OP. After that, listen and learn.Indigo said:Dude you really don't know what you are talking about.
This isn't even plain English, much less does it describe atheism correctly."Atheism, as a philosophical view, is the position that either affirms the nonexistence of gods."
I agree. But that's part of Atheism. If you affirm that there is no god, you are saying that you know that there is no god. When you know that there is no god you are not basing it on facts because you cannot prove that there is no god. To believe something without facts (ie: theists) is called Faith.
Agnostics neither believe nor reject the possibility that God exists. You're still struggling with that fast. Atheists fully believe there is no God just as must as a Deist fully believes there is.What is one of the main reasons that "Atheists" or "Agnostic/Atheists", to be more precise, don't believe in gods?
Because there is no evidence to support it. Hence an Atheist is someone who has Faith that there is no god, which doesn't make much sense. Atheism is an extreme, somewhat like Communism which is nearly impossible to achieve.
If anyone admits they're not 100% certain there are no Gods, then they're admitting they're not an atheist. Again, "weak atheism" is not atheism in my book. Its agnosticism. Most big "Atheists" (ie: Richard Dawkins), admit that they aren't 100% certain that there is no god, they think it's IMPROBABLE though, and that the chances are slim to none but they won't assure you that there is no god.
Agnosticism isn't even on the scale. They take no position at all.Take a look at this scale:
7-Atheism
6-=
5-=
4-Agnosticism
3-=
2-=
1-Theism
On your scale, most people are #1.Most will fall into number 6...
I agree which is the #1 reason I'm not an atheist.Number 7's would be falling back into the Theists none-sense of "knowing" (based on faith, not facts) that there is no god, which would be contradicting itself.
You've made your ignorance on this topic clear.I hope I've made it clear.
