Should I go to prom?

I know this isn't the high school section, but I was wondering what the opinions of people were who have already gone through high school. How important is going to prom?

I've got a handful of girls that want to go with me, but while a few of them are attractive I don't really feel any kind of connection to them. I dunno, I've got the mindset that you should go to prom with someone special and right now I have no one like that in my life.

I've got a few of my friends wanting me to go with this one girl who's in their clique that hasn't been asked yet, even though she's good looking, but I don't just want to go with someone for shyts and giggles. I don't know, I think the whole idea of prom is kind of ****ed, especially when I'll be dropping around $200 for one night with a girl that I may not even care for that much.

What do you guys think?

It depends if you think you'd regret not going later on. Remember that you'll probably only get one prom in your entire life, so it may pay to go, even if it won't be the most amazing experience like you'd expect it to be. I'm glad I went to my prom even though it really wasn't a lot of fun, because if I hadn't, I probably would've wondered what I had missed out on.

I didn't go to mine. I regret not going because it's a part of high school that I didn't experience.

Just pick the girl you like the most and go with her. That way if people ever talk about prom, you wouldn't have to say, "I never went."

I did not go to my prom, I only went to one dance with a friend and it was complete waste of my time. I do not regret going to the prom, not worth my time or my money.

But if you really want to go...go.

Go with one of them, go with a group of friends...whatever. Just go to have fun. It's your prom...and you'll regret it if you don't. Your mindset of going with "someone special" in my opinion is just a way out of not going. It's a social event, and that should mirror your mindset. You will go have fun, hang out with friends, get drunk after and get layed.

It's not some special romantic event unless you're with someone...and then it's just a pseudo relationship confidence builder to blind you of the ultimate truth of you're girl getting railed out by a different guy a year from now, after she goes off to college. ;)

dude! you gotta go to your prom thats one of those once in a lifetime moments that you will be kicking yourself in the ass for not going to later. My prom was one of the most fun nights of my life. like someone said above, pick the girl you like the most and go with her. taking a girl to prom doesn't mean you're marrying the girl!

not really. i think going to grad is more important =P (for the obvious reason)
but prom is like.. an open party invitation, almost. its just a party. anyone invited by anyone can attend.
its not like its the LAST united party between you and your fellow grads because its not. they would be there, but along with a bunch of other people you might not even know. its just another reason to get a dress and matching shoes in my opinion xD

but you should go though. once in a lifetime opportunity =)

Just go! You only have one opportunity, it's only one night of your life, and if you go you guarantee that you can't regret not going later on.

$200 seems rather steep for a guy. Especially if you don't particularly care, you don't really need to rent a fancy tux, etc, just wear a suit if you have one.

Anyway, I'd say go. Sure prom is over hyped and odds are it won't be some magical night, but so what? I went twice because at the time my gf was a year older so I went to hers and then mine. They were not that great, for the first one I was really sick with the flu, and for the second one everything was good except the DJ sucked, and for a dance that's pretty important.

But they were still both tons of fun and even if you hate normal high school dances, it's more than that. I found people were all in good moods and much friendlier, by prom everyone has realized (or should have) that all this high school stuff is bs, and you can stop worrying about it and just have fun. After parties are also usually awesome.

Just go, you get one chance.

No. Don't go. 98% of this earth doesn't have a prom. They are totally happy. Hell, you can be a high school senior for as long as you want outside of America. The French call them "Les Playboys". Girls that age go to clubs, casinos, and can drink in every country but....America. But hey, in America you can get a 35 year old single mother. So your choice.

America has the prom for one reason. Guess. C'mon...Guess. MONEY. It is a massive industry. Lots of money to be made off of it.

Once again, guilt and shame dominate you as an American dude. If you don't go you feel like a complete reject. Hell, I am the ultimate American reject. Proud of it. One day I will have a gorgeous wife younger than my ex-classmates daughters. You just gotta know where to play the game. Life is for living. Sure as hell isn't for competing. Competition makes you a servant to others. Break from that. I did.

The only thing worse than the prom are reunions. I am sure many of you will go to those one day. It is a cycle of sadness. Always following the crowd. Never being you. My advice is to be an individual. Don't fall prey to associating yourself with any group. You be You.

Don't always be the one putting yourself out for her. Don't always be the one putting all the effort and work into the relationship. Let her, and expect her, to treat you as well as you treat her, and to improve the quality of your life.

Yeah, if you cut off your hand you will remember that always as well.

NOBODY yet has come up with a reason beyond, "this is what you are supposed to do in America." No wonder nobody gets attractive girls on here.

You should go. I went to a lot of senior proms when I was in HS from sophomore year until I graduated. It's really just one big party with decent after parties. The nostalgia of knowing it'll be the last time a lot of people will be together does some pretty cool things. Hatchets get buried, new friendships are made, feelings that we held back come out. Trust me it's a good time for those who want it to be a good time. Really it's just one more night of your life but proms are almost always events of high spirits. I'm not saying It'll be the single most important and memorable event of your highschool life, but it is one more opportunity to have a good time with friends.

Go because you might get some good, funny story's!

When you're talking to other girls after prom, you can talk about it.

"OMG Shelly got so drunk, she was walking sidewards like a crab... nice change from the way she usually walks..... like a dog".

"Why is it on prom girls look like crap disney princess's?"

I'm pretty sure the prom happened by now. And most likely Brighty has graduated.

If you want to talk, talk to your friends. If you want a girl to like you, listen to her, ask questions, and act like you are on the edge of your seat.
