I've been reading a lot about Accutane lately for Acne and I was just wondering if anyone here would recommend me to go on Accutane? Here's a pic of my acne.... I don't know what severe acne is so I don't know, I just started breaking-out out of no where. My face was perfectly clear 3 months ago and now it's horrible. Right now I am just taking Vitamin B5 (2 grams a day) and just cleansing my face morning & night and moisturizing with Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion morning and night. I have recently just started applying BP 2.5%. But even though I take care of my face, my acne still won't go away!?

Go and see the doctor or a dermatologist, they will give the best advice.

I've been on Accutane before. It worked wonders for me, but your dermatologist will likely put you on tetracycline or minocin before trying Accutane, simply because Accutane can have some significant side effects. For me, example, my lips became ridiculously chapped. Like, no amount of Blistex in the world could have stopped this chapping (and believe me, I did try). I still think it was worth it, but once again, you'll want to use Accutane as a last resort.

It worked for me too. But, since you can't get Accutane without a prescription anyway, you'll have to see your doctor/dermatologist to make sure it's ok.

I had the exact same problem. I stopped taking it because my lips got so chapped it was painful and it looked like I had some kind of disease. But it was definitely worth it, it worked great other than that.

ya man for sure go on accutane if you have the chance, im on it right now actually and i get compliments all the time from peopel noticing the difference. and i knwo lots of friends that have done it and its worked for them as well. whats his face is right, the doc will refer you to minocin first, like he did with me. but looking at your skin im gonna say it probably wont do shyt cuz it didnt for me and my skin wasnt as bad.

but accutane will solve all your problems bro, and get tons of blistex "lip medex", its the only stuff that will keep your lips in order

Chances are you won't get Accutane right away. Your dermatologist will go through a few medications and judge your reactions. It took me about 3 or 4 years before I found a doctor who didn't just give me topical meds, and instead put me on Accutane.

If you get put on Accutane, get ready to either pour on some lip moisturizer, or suffer the extreme chapness. By extreme, I mean extreme.

Most often than not, the first few weeks may cause you to break out more if you're put on a full dosage. A good doctor will put you on a mild dosage to prevent the increased breakouts, and then up the dose as you go. This stuff IS amazing. No jokes.

I've never been given a full dosage right off the bat, so I can't attest to it. Freshman year I was put on 20mg/day and then I stopped taking after a few months (horrible memory) and same thing here this summer. My acne started clearing up within weeks. Gotten slightly worse after I stopped, due to the fact that I didnt finish a treatment. But "slightly worse" is a hell of a lot better than where I was when I started.

I took Accutane when I was 17. It was like friggin chemotherepy. I looked sick all the time, felt very tired, developed this bad body odor (think of rotting pork chops baking in the sun on the seat of your car) and extremely bad breath, had very dry skin/cracked lips, and had to have several additional blood tests for some reason or another. The dermatologist cut me off of it a month short of the full cycle because I developed some severe infections in my hands and feet. I ended up having surgery on the big toe of my left foot to have a bunch of the infection drained/cleaned up. It was pretty painful.

Fortunately, it cured my severe acne! All the bad symptoms from the treatment cleared up when I got off it. My experience was much worse than the norm, but I don't regret trying it. It was a last resort, and it worked. I still got the ocassional breakout, but never anything close to how things were before I went on it.

Don't let my experience discourage you from going on it though. The sh!t is serious medicine, and acne is a nasty condition. Sometimes you gotta play through the pain.
