IMO I wouldn't do it, not worth it unless I know I'm going to get laid. You also say that she will be visiting relatives. Sounds to me you're going to be surrounded by family. She is also asian and asian families are very conservative. Hard to imagine being alone with misses. Well, just do what you feel is right for you. If you really like this broad then go for it. One: Correct on Asians and their families. He ain't getting laid.

Two: She's a "5" maybe a "6" at best. For $1,000 trip, better be an "8" minimum, or have the world's best personality.

Three: There is NO WAY he knows her. He hasn't MET her yet. Body language, face to face interaction is the ONLY way to get to know someone, period.

Four: He could find a better gal probably within a quarter of a mile from where he lives, and it's not going to cost him $1,000.

... Should I go on? The internet, myspace, internet dating, etc., has only increased the AFCness in this country. I'm hell-bent on beating down AFCness. Granted, there are success stories from myspace and internet dating, but for every success story, there are probably 3,000 AFC's going down the p-ssy path.

Try & dig up some info about her. How much about her do you really know? Bangkok is the sex trade capital of the WORLD & many Thai babes work there as prostitutes. if you want to meet an out of town girl, i suggest you come across to the girl as if you have other reasons you'll be in her area. "i have to meet up with a friend and do this and that..." tell her that after you take care of business, you'll have time to hang out with her. if you come across this way, you won't look needy by driving miles to see her. because she'll be under the impression she wasn't the main priority for you being in her area, i think the interaction would be much more relaxed.
i'd use this for girls who are about an hours drive away. in immaculate's case, i personally wouldn't fly out to meet the girl unless she paid for my plane ticket. and by the way, she's a good looking chick. she could be much better looking though if she did something about her sense of style (hair, makeup, clothes)
