I just bought my first house. I'm not much of a gamer, but since I will be buying a leather couch and flat screen tv I thought I would buy a gaming system so I can occasionally play NHL, Madden, or Tiger Woods.

So the big question is..............PS3 or XBox 360???

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

ironic i see this post

i have been a playstation guy since psone. the titles that are available just blows xbox out the water.

but i gotta be honest.. and i have both and a wii now but i play the ps3 80% of the time... both the wii and the xbox as a system work 10x better.

let me give you an example of the bull**** i have to deal with on my ps3.

about 4 months ago i beat resistance 2 on the ps3. great freaking game. anyway i made a mental note to buy resistance 3 and last Tuesday I did. I got to admit i was pretty excited about the game. So i buy the game, wait for my son to go to sleep and me done working and **** and my wife goes to sleep and i'm like finally i can play, so i happily pop in the game, ready to get down and dirty only to find out that before i am able to get to the game, i have download a freaking 1.5GB "patch". **** i have played good games that aren't 1.5GB lol. WTF did you miss when you were creating the damn that that was 1.5 GB lol? that's not a few lines of code brah. anyway, this takes about 30-40 mins give or take, i'm a tad pissed but most games make you install some **** now adays so itr's not the biggest of deals as long as it's a one time deal.

anyway it gets done, i get the cut secene at the beginning of the game, i'm happy now i'm about to play, lol wrong. lol that was just installing the patch. now you have to actually install the game lol. now installing the game, what.. took, about another 20-30 mins.

okay finally we are ready to go, the game is installed, i'm adjusting my bringtness and **** i'm ready to get down. so after that.. the screen just.. just freezes lol. stays stuck in loading mode.

after some resarch, therei s an issue with the game data being corrupted, and the way around it is, you have to download the game, then go back and download the 1.5GB patch so it won't work. so i had to delete the patch, delete the game, re download both in the right order, and the **** still did not work. i still have not fvcking seen teh games start title screen i don't know what it looks like. fvcking pathetic. it's bad enough you make a game that you have to download a freaking 1GB patch to make the game work right but i shoudl not ahve to niggarig **** that is straight out of the box. i assurey ou i won't be touching anything from that game developer again.

you don't get that with xbox beucase they don't rely on updates and game installs. plays striaght from the disk for the most part. but with that said, you do lose some overall quality beucase of it. games like MGS4, IMHO the exbox can't touch on it's best day.

Xbox 360 is known to have better game selections so I'm not sure what bb is talking about. The 360 also still has more online players than ps3. Downside is u gotta pay to play online and no blue ray compatible. If you can comfortably afford a separate blue ray player than get a 360, if not get the ps3 as blue ray is definitely a must have now. Blue rsy with hd on surround sound is like sitting in a small theater.

He's not saying ps3 has more games, he is saying the ps3 only games are better. 360 has maxed out its potential where game devs haven't scratched the surface of what ps3 can do.

Xbox 720 will have about the same graphic potential as ps3 had now

pretty much.

if if you are into deep games with deep plots and killer graphics and are willing to deal with a few technical inconvenience the ps3 is a home run. if you just want to f around and play ncaa football a few times a week and a few other mutli platform games the xbox is the way to go.

ps3 is years literally ahead of where the wii and the xbox is from a system performance standpoint but the price they pay is a bunch of glitches. I mean **** an xbox disk has a max 9.5GB on it and a ps3 disk has a max 25GB on it. that right there shoudl tell you what you are dealing with.\

but just from a pure "OMG this game is the ****" stand point, outside of halo and maybe gears of war..just doesn';t have anything that can compete with metal gear 4, the uncharted series, dead space, bioshock, god of war 3, heavy rain.. i mean ps3 has some exclusives for yo ass. i mean metal gear 4 is more like a life event than it is a game lol, and I do believe they got to the bottom of the ps3 in that game, and the xbox could not dream of developing that game with all the cut scenes and the attention to detail. yeah xbox has games like daunte's inferno which is a god of war esque game.. but GOW3 ****s all over that. but if you are just playing generic games like madden and tiger woods i would go with the xbox

I remember the first time i played metal gear 4 which was like what, 3 and a half years ago give or take, and i have/had a true surround sound system in my liiving room with the speakers hooked up to the top of the wall, the tweeters, the entire bit and i remember when i got raging raven i had never seen any **** like that in a video game in my life, that was the first ture surround sound game i had ever played beucase that had me scared ****less lol.

if i ahd to cchose personally honestly i would get a wii before i got an xbox. **** some of those games like sonic and mario are fun as fvck. not only that the wii is probably the best invention for dates since colonge lol. **** drink a few beers and pop in wii bowling. you can't not have a good time. also the wii is the perfect platform to get girls used to "guys who game". I am not what you would call a hard core video gamer but it is a hobby and one i do not plan on stopping, i don't play everyday but i play enough to where i know what's going on all the time and what's hot or what not, and a girl coming over to watch you try to beat raging raven on metal gear might be just a tad bit too hardcore. but playing wii bowling or mario on wii girls can get into that. next thing you know they are playing your wii when you are in the shower and **** then you know you got em.

damn now i want to play mgs4 again

Either one you like better, check them both out at a store. Then once you bought what you like go ahead and install a chip onto it.

You could also build a gaming pc and use it as digital video recorder, media center, video conferencing, and much more. Consider a PC instead, PC should have all the games you want.

I look at it this way..

xbox 360 = apple
ps3 = pc

the xbox 360 just "works" but you pay a premium (i.e. xbox live, not mod friendly).. the ps3 is the best in terms of tech but seems clunky and not multiplayer friendly (see: party games).

xbox kinect: this is the best for dance games. that's it. I can see a lot of potential for other games but there are drawbacks to this tech too. (why dont they make sex games, with voice control and all.. lol)

ps3 move: very accurate, the best for shooting games or any game requiring accuracy. but holding a controller isnt so hot with dance games.

wii: too old.. i'd rather buy a N64 and a xbox 360.

seriously tho, if you are 25+ and a pretty busy guy, you probably wont have time to play games. I'd get a xbox360 because its all around "user friendlier" than a ps3.

Source: I own both 360 and ps3. no wii tho.

I too own both and honestly it's a complete toss up. There aren't that many triple a games made exclusively for either system. The online experience is better for Xbox but Sony has Bluray dvd. Both function well enough as streaming devices. Graphically the Playstation is better but MF those loading times.

Honestly if you're just going to play at home by yourself or occasionally with a friend inhouse, get a PS3. I buy single player games for PS3 but If its a multi player or otherwise online game I get it for the 360. I also use the zune video player on my 360 to rent HD movies. It's pretty cheap and the movies are typically fairly recent.

Do what I did... Get a Colecovision :D

No patches, no walkthroughs, no loading time, no buying 5hit to add onto the game. Just jam in a game cartridge and you're playing for hours.

PS3!!!!

If you want the most capable system out there.... the fact that it uses blue-ray discs allow it to have better graphic potential. Plus free On-Line gaming! XBox charges you a fee I believe... why pay for something that's free?

I'm not sure about XBox now... but as I said above PS3 is also a Blue-Ray disc player... I think you are getting more value for your money and better specifications....

I haven't kept up with XBox's improvements over the years though... I knew this was the case at both system's inception

Blu Ray discs are for storage. Does that mean that if I put a big ass hard drive in my computer I will get better graphics?

No, because that is stupid. Very stupid.

What makes the graphics is the GPU which the Xbox has a benefit over the PS3 and the quality of the developers which PS3 has a benefit over the Xbox. Have you seen Uncharted and God of War? The developers made magic with outdated hardware.

Yeah, the PSN network is pretty damn decent. And free.

I haven't kept up with XBox's improvements over the years though...
I hear the new models don't overheat and die so often.

this thread gave me the itch to replay MGS4 on PS3 which I beat again last night.. took about 15 hours total... seriously MGS4 alone is reason enough to buy a ps3. this seriously might be the best video game ever created on any platform. good god they pushed the limits of the ps3.

yes i do and don't get me started lol. i'm torn. it is a revolutionary thing they are trying to do with the hack a sword/ analog bit but I mean, metal gear is about covert missions/sneaking around / CQC. this is none of the three.

but it looks interesting. I'm not just a hardcore gamer but i can appreciate a very good video game. really the only thing I'm looking forward to the rest of this year is the new resident evil 6 coming out in the fall.

Yeah I liked Ninja Gaiden and MGR looks a lot like that but it's a wait and see situation.

MGS5 is supose to be a throw back to traditional Metal Gear with more espionage play. It's set between 1974 and 1980. That sounds pretty cool.

Side note we're ayctually planning on having MLG with wagering in vegas coming soon. I can imagine how intense gaming will be when actual money is at stake lol.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.
