"I need space". When my ex wife told me that I typed it into Google and that's when I first found this site. Now I'm hearing a different phrase. A girl I know said "I feel trapped" about the relationship she's in (not with me) and it reminded me of when an ex girlfriend of mine said the same thing about our relationship. Has anyone else heard this line? What do you think they really mean when they say this and how should you deal with it if they do?

Also, if anyone has any other generic phrases that women use and their translations, I'd love to hear them.

Yeah theres a whole bunch of the above mixed and matched, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to pick up on the general theme though.

That's the exact same thing my last American girlfriend told me. I took it as she was not as interested in being close as I was, but not really a dumping either. I gave her her space, and she ended up calling me a few months later, and we got together a few times. She may have been wanting for us to get back tight, but she never came out and said it (which since she was the one who wanted the space to begin with, I figured that she should be the one to say that she no longer wanted that space.)

Now that I date in Eastern Europe, if ever a woman would tell me that, I would just move on and never look back (and probably not even allow her the chance of getting back.) But with the poor dating prospects in the USA, a man does not have this luxury.
