I'm a recovering AFC, and currently working my appearence. Getting baby smooth skin from a good shave is one tiny piece to the puzzle that's done a lot for my ego recently.

If you can't grow good facial hair (or don't have a strong enough beardline for good looking stubble), then I suggest you wet-shave. On a whim earlier this year I learned how to do it effectively and now I can't go a day without smooth skin. I wet-shave since I have extremely sensitive skin...raking a lubed-up razor across it turns out to be much more gentle then the electric ever was, and it just about cured my occasional acne.

If you take the plunge with this, though, I suggest you get an old injector razor or an old Gillette double-edged (like your grandpa used to use). The Mach 3/Fusion/Schick blades that are out today work OK, but they cost a LOT more money and arguably don't do as well as the DE blades.

Oh, I'm sure they do...they just coast a boatload in comparison. I'm a cheap college kid, so I'm using an old Gillette Fatboy. :D

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Yea I have the fusion that a family member got me and I haven't gone out to get refills yet. I might start going for a cheaper option as I don't see a big difference in shave. I needa get some shaving cream too, i've been using soap for the past 2 months lol ****en lazy

i use the fusion, bought it out of impulse one day and i go to costco for the refills, relatively cheap there.

usually though i'll rock a goatee or fine stubble. the single blade on the fusion helps with defining it.

sometimes if i feel particularly cultural, i'll leave a thin line of stubble on my jawline, forget what it's called but it looks kinda cool.

I got myself an 1972 Gillette Super Adjustable ( some great vintage dealers on ebay ) and also am using a Merkur 34C ( i think it's called "Heavy Duty" in the U.S. ) together with Feather or Personna Blades. Shaving Soap or cream and not the canned goo.

The only way to shave.

No matter what the media tells you, some things can't be improved.

One of the main points of a close and healthy shave is to move over the same spot only as often as absolutely necessary because it damages the skin. If you use a Mach3 you have 3 blades built in, a Quattro has 4. So has the fusion ( or is it already 5? ) Now you move over the difficult areas ( your sideburns, your throat ) how often? Not a good thing.

Forget what the commercials tell you and get a decent razor and the right accessoires and learn to shave with some style. To give it a shot, try a Wilkinson Classic. It comes with blades and is € 3,95 here in germany.

Go to youtube and check out Mantic59's Videos on shaving like it's supposed to be done.

I don't shave, I use electric hair shears that leave about 1mm growth all over. I look better with regrowth.

But my dad used to use a cut-throat and I looked into getting one because It looks cool and apparently is the closest shave around. If you get a proper one you never even have to buy blades, just sharpen it.

This is the best one for beginners because it's cheep and uses replaceable blades, so you don't have to buy a sharpening stone and strop.

Make sure you use proper shaving soap and brush.

YES, some of you shave the old-fashioned way!

The guys on Badger and Blade have converted me, and I've actually got a straight razor in the mail right now. The very low cost of maintaining the edge is reason enough for me to try one out.

(That, and I'd just like to master one to make people shove the 'metrosexual' term up their asses...there's nothing manlier than shaving with a straight.)

For guys that shave their head, get either a fusion or a headblade.

I used the headblade for probably a year and a half straight. Loved the thing. The fusion is the best traditional razor I found for shaving the dome without cuts.

this man is right! being half black and white i cant express how much wetshaving is a godsend. if you are prone to razor bumps this will cure. invest in a descent safety razor like an old gillette or a parker (which i use). the blades are even more important. swedish gillettes, derbys or Israeli personnas work great. i use crabtree and evelyns sandlewood shave cream and a edwin jager brush, cost a good 25-35 bucks for each one but the results cant be beaten. shaving is actually enjoyable and i look forward to it everyday. good luck

I use electric. Philshave.

WHat I do is have a shower, get out, dry my face, then shave immediately. Get a nice close shave that way. Shaving dry leaves my skin a bit flakey. Then I use moisturiser afterwards.

The real key is to replace the Philishave cutting rotors regularly, so they will be sharp.

I use a small towel with hot water for 5-10 minutes to soften the hairs and to open the pores. Then i lather, wait another few minutes and then shave away!

You can have a close shave or a quick shave. Both at the same time is not possible.

Flava is right: Israeli Personna blades or japanese Feather blades. Derby blades weren't for me. Maybe i have to try them again since they're always recommended.
