Lat pulldown and chins don't go hand in hand because of different movement patterns, however its generally the lat pulldown you can do more on from what I have seen. If you can do chins for reps I would really do them instead, a much better move. Sounds like the machine is definitely f***** up.

Btw you said before about having difficulty with chins. Was it some kind of form issue? Something I don't see a lot of people doing is getting tight before they initiate the move. Just thought I would mention that.

And yes I meant why are you using a belt in general. I suppose there is a lot of debate on this issue. Warboss was always anti belt, IA is pro belt. The guys on elitefts say only use it when maxing out, although I think this is what IA says as well. Personal preference I suppose, but I prefer fully raw.

Can't weight for the DC!
Yeah I guess, there is definitely something weird going on with the pulldown...which concerns me because i'm using it next week as my backwidth exercises...

Hmm whatever stuff I might've said about chins, they were probably in my head because I hadn't done them in so long. They're awesome...we're hardcore :D

That DC workout looks fun...why don't you just do the "where to start" thread. Just curious to know. Also...who uses a belt for DLs? haha

Because we all want to critique workouts because were hard-headed

(That goes for me to)

well, I'm doing the DC routine because I know DC training is very effective and one of the most knowledgeable guys on the board (EFFORT) set me it. Lots of different things work, this is just the one I'm doing this time.. :)

Well, why not use a belt? :p

Stallion Shaun has probably made about the most progress out of anyone on the board just about...what are you up now Shaun 60lbs? I think Effort has been training him for 9-12 months if I remember correctly.

Shaun I amen't going to f*** with Effort's plan or anything, but what's wrong with subbing chins/pullups in for lat pulldowns on the DC routine, it being the better move and considering the machine may be f*****. Just a thought.

As far as a belt is concerned when you have us squatting 50-150kg, is it really necessary? Of course I have seen the questioned asked to IA, Won't a belt lead to an undeveloped core? IA says that is what core work is for. Of course IA has herniated his back twice, whereas Warboss hasn't. Of course IA is quite a bit older. So where does that leave my argument! Personal preference I suppose...

The reason we didn't use chins/pullups is because he can't meet the RP range with them.

Wow thanks for your kind words quag :) yeah, up about 60lbs and my lifts are a lot higher now. I'm still pretty weak (relative to the big lads) but I've made decent progress and to be fair I was abnormally weak to begin with (imagine an 18yr old guy who is 8 stones, 110lbs, lol...)

yeah I guess the belt isn't entirely necessary and if EFFORT tells me to take it off I will.

:)

Yeah I hear ya mate, I reckon I can do like...7 chinups in a straight set now, so maybe I could get like, 12 or 13 in a rest-paused set. Do we have to get 15?

haha, nah not really mate, I don't think I have the genetics for it anyway. Plus I get fat too easily. Why you ask mate :)

But damn, I honestly wouldn't mind being as big as one (never gonna happen)...

lol, nah man, I don't think there's any way I could be a pro BBer unless you put me on all the gear in america :p

Well, my dad for example has got to be 260-280lbs (fat, untrained) and he doesn't even eat all that much...he's been in this condition for years but gradually getting fatter. His calories aren't all that high, but he does drink stuff like milk a bit.

I'm probably at 15% bf or slightly higher and about 170lbs. I get like, 3200 cals usually, 280g protein, but I think I'm gaining fat like this as well and that I could actually gain weight on about 2800 cals.

Basically it's probably unfair for me to be talking like I know I'm predisposed to fat gain etc, just my experience so far. I have a LONGGG way to go but with lads like you guys helping me out, I'm much better off and will get there quicker :)

Well with a carb cut-off and morning cardio (read WBA's thread on losing fat while gaining muscle) I think you would be fine. It takes years to get big. I'm at 202...on the edge of getting to 12% body fat ;)

I think you could get as big as you like. You just got to eat big, and watch those carbs. I get fat easily too FYI. It sucks, but with hard work you can pull it off.

Yeah, I used to follow carb cutoffs religiously but now I'm at uni it can be a problem sometimes. I'm in catered halls, which is a disadvantage because I've then gotta find extra food, like dozens of eggs, shakes, tuna, chicken etc but in a struggle to get the protein I sometimes end up drinking some milk a few hours before bed or something like that.

Yeah I definitely want to get 'big', so it's gonna take years to get where I wanna be (obviously above 220 I spose with 12% bodyfat or lower) but we'll all get there in the end if we keep at it :)
