I am taking classes for towards my degree as an RN. I will start out making around 50,000 a year. The drawback is my school has a long waiting list to get into the RN program. I really don't want to be a Fvcking RN. My family wants me to be that because it's a safe profession. The rate of my school, I will not be able to get into the program until fall of 06' or later!

If I go to the UI I will have to pay more money and may still have a waiting list.

What I really want to do is become a artist or producer or actor. That's where my heart is. I also the personality to get over on people and pursued them to see my viewpoints. I don't know what profession that pays good money where I can use that talent?

Any Help?

Dont listen to your parents. Is being an RN and spending all that time to be one going to further your career in acting, producing etc? Short answer, No.

Why not spend the time and money and go to some acting classes? Learn and master your craft...

Its your life, not your parents life. They had theirs, dont let them dictate yours.

Im sure they mean well, but lets get real... a RN? Registered nurse right? I know this is extremely superficial, but do you seriously want to walk around telling people "Im a nurse"....?

The reason I can relate to you is because ive been pressured to conform to whats "normal". Go to school work some sh1t 9 to 5 job where i make enough to pay the bills. No thanks.

50,000 sounds good? But seriously... i think my time is worth more then 50,000. I am trying to make a career out of music creation, writing, producing etc.

Personally I would say fvk an RN and do what you like.

you need something to fall back on, and support you while your acting or producing career grows, unless you want to be waiting tables, take the RN position as something to support you UNTIL.....your producing or acting career blows up. Believe in yourself and ALWAYS chase your dreams.

Dillinger, this is simply out of curiosity, but the unanswered question still remains... where did you come from to be suddenly made a mod?

Also, I thought you've made references to you having kids and already graduated from college...

You can thank the government for their socialistic ways as the reason for the overambundance of nursing students/nursing want-to-be.

There are several schools around my area that target people of lower intelligence to pursue a career in nursing. The school/government pay most/ if not all of the tuition and they hold their hand the whole way through to ensure passing grades and a diploma.

My sister "who is near retarded" is in the nursing program at a local college. It is ridiculous just how easy they make this program (ex. too many people failed the test, lets take the test again!).

If i were to give someone younger then myself "such as you" advice. I would tell them to pursue their dream and forget about college. As the years pass, the Bachelor degree becomes less important; hence a surplus of college graduates and not enough jobs.

Dillinger:

I thought I would post what I'm doing after I graduate in several months. Personally, I would love to play one of the major sports, and am not going to college, maybe after a few years I will though, to get recognized. I know I can do it, and enjoy it.

Just go for it man, if you know you can do it, do it. We are here for a fraction of earth's existence, do what you want do do man, screw what your parents, etc. have to say.

Thanks all for your thoughts. After doing some thinking I am going to go to Indiana University this summer or fall. They have a lot of courses I like. It is also a nice campus. I am probably not going there to become an RN but rather to become a Dentist or psychologist.

In the mean time I can keep working this wack ass MA job.

Julian,
I love your rebel attiude but i have learned to listen to my elders. They know they have been were I'm at.

PVSSY-EATER,
That's what they've told me. In case my dreams do not come true have something to support my family on. Great Point.

Nocturnal,
;)

tristan22,
What school does your sister go to? I wish stuff were like that out here.

i would tell my children to finish school.

however, i would follow my dream.

you have to pick and choose your own education and your own dreams, and decide what to follow.

whatever is suppose to happen , will happen and it will all just pan out.

dont stress.

If you want a backup degree, get something corporate (eco, accounting, marketing, finance, etc). Or a trade (ie. builder, plumber).

I'd say follow your dream, but grab a backup on the side just in case.

If you want something, go for it 110%. If you want it really bad you don't need a backup. People with 'backup degrees' more than often fall back on them, and thus not fulfilling their goals/dreams.

I guess I am a bit of a weirdo here but my dream kind of requires degrees. If you are just starting college then hell fvck what your parents say. Like you said IU has a ton of other options, if you are just starting than explore every option that you can. You may just find something that is more interesting. Most incoming college students change majors at least twice before actually choosing what they stick with. And have you ever been to IU? Playboys no. 1 party school 3 yrs back, they had a porno filmed in the dorms that year and have since cracked down a bit but it is Indiana's liberal arts school. Filled with hot broads last time I went.

So seriously your list of options on your "dream" jobs actually sound like you just want a job were you will be famous. Artist, producer or actor. All of those are pretty unrelated and require different skills. None of these are best suited for Indiana either. Maybe you should look at schools in more of a happening spot.

I agree with Centaurion on this one.

From your second post, it appears like you have already made up your mind about this. Why did you even post this thread in the first place, for attention or something?
