This morning I was sitting on my back porch and I thought of a time a year ago when a hummingbird appeared just as I thought of the girl I had started dating (it seemed like an omen). Just then, another hummingbird appeared. I hadn't seen one in 10 months. I wonder if maybe I heard it fluttering and that was what made me think of one, but the odds of seeing a hummingbird just as you are thinking about one must be small. The symbol of boundaries and infinity. Anyhow, story of my life.
So tonight (without checking the 15 messages on my phone) I knew I'd see her. I went to a strip club and there she was, she was the first person I focused on. That happens to me a lot. I somehow know where certain people are, and they are always the first person I set eyes on when I get there. Anyhow, she was dancing for some old bald guy, about 75, wearing shorts and a T-shirt. Then she got called on stage. I hadn't seen her in 3 months. It was the fourth venue I found her at - by chance. All 25 miles from where I live. I did get her a job there, but that was in March.
I felt a little nervous but she smiled at me so I walked up to her and put $5 in her garter. "Long time no see" she said as I fumbled the bill a bit. I told her about the hummingbird and watched her for a moment. She promised she still didn't have any tattoos.
It was strange to see my former dream girl naked on stage and basically feel nothing. The sad reality is, back in May, after she asked if she could live with me and I agreed, she chose to entertain disgusting old men who are 30 years my senior in order to supplement the rent for an underemployed boy toy 25 years my junior, who can't even take me in a fight, because there is just something about him. I left her with gramps and walked out.
