I've lived quite happily in a mini-van for months at a time, several times in my life. It works just fine, if you pay attention to some basic rules. Never leave it where it's not legal to park. Always move it at least twice a day, never park at the same place more than 2-3 times a week, unless you have specific permission of the owner, that is.

I prefer to own property.

Mortgage is $1300. Other half of duplex rents for $1000 per month. Two roommates give me $500 each per month. Enough to pay for mortgage and all expense, plus put some cash in my pocket on top of my job income. None of this RV sh*t.

until a riot, quake, tax measure, etc, makes the place untenable, or they raise your taxes by 100%, or until a neighbor or your tenants make your life miserable, or until you find a much better job someplace else, etc. Everyone can't find a bunch of suckers to leech off of, but everyone can live in a mini-van.

I live out of an RV part of the time, for the days I work. I love it, who cares what anyone thinks. I park the RV, and have no commute while I work. No worries.

I enjoy having a home with me, where ever I go. I live out of a sailboat the remaining time. I like being mobile. I can't sit still and stay in one place for long.

My Filipina was told of my lifestyle first thing. Because of the extreme motivation of wanting to be a US citizen, she accepted me as I am, at least until she can become a Citizen! :) She knows very well how many millions more just like her that I know how to find, so we will see how it goes, when the time comes.

damned right. I've had that knowledge/attitude ever since the Army sent me to Korea, back in the 70's, dudes. You are nuts to let US women give you the slightest amount of static or heartburn.

Part of my business is to run a trailer park for people on vacations. While most of the people own their RV's it would be a huge mistake to think it's just for low income families and retirees anymore. RV(and trailers) run the price gamut from a few hundred bucks to a half a million dollars or more.

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

What is your story, Don't. Do you work for a living, hustle or pension?

What kinda vehicle you have, is it spacious? Do you work a relatively small geographical radius, or travel cross country?

Cool, I have been following that thread for a long time!

I love the idea of living out of an RV. My father used to take our family in a small camper van and drive from Niagra falls all the way down to florida twice a year. I loved it!

I've mentioned several times to my girlfriend that we could buy a winebago when we get home and live out of that while we tour around Canada and the USA. I think I'll probably invest in an acre of land here and there in the remote areas to park at just so I don't get any flak from local parking authorities. I use to drive rig across the US and its a major pain in the ass to find somewhere to park at night outside of the flying J and interstate rest stops.

Also I really like the idea of living off the grid and showing my young family around North America while doing it on a budget. If you are thinking about this Carrot, definetely do some research. You can get portable solar panels for the roof of your car now to power all your inside devices as well as getting a SUN OVEN to do your cooking with. Also have a look at buying a water filtration system or a solar powered wind trap (takes water right out of the air). Build yourself a couple POP CAN HEATERS for your windows and you shouldn't have to worry too much about cold weather. You could cut your expenses almost to 0 if you really wanted to. This is a very smart course of action, you are never going to be limited to one area of the country. Need to switch jobs? No problem, your house is completely mobile. Awesome..

I'll likely be buying a small trailer house in florida next year, I love trailer parks.

I think its a really cool idea.
I have always dreamt of owning a car that has its own bathroom! :D

That's actually a very neat, convenient, thing about an RV. If you have to use the 'head', just pull over at the next stop. :) Furthermore, if you get hungry, you have a full kitchen with you.

It's pretty nice. You have anything you need with you at all times.

The RV is my only vehicle actually. I drive less now, walk more, and plan trips based on that as well.

The only downside, is gas. These beasts are thirsty gals, I get 10 mpg on the highway, average 8 around town.

Surprisingly, my monthly gas bill has gone down however. I just drive less, especially during my work week.

I hate anything much bigger than a mini-van. Not only does the mileage suck, but they are magnets for cops and thieves ( too often the only difference is a uniform). We move several hundred miles, twice a year, to avoid the heat and cold. Once at our 'spot", tho, we don't move much, and mostly use the bikes to run errands. The van gets moved twice a day, tho, to avoid hassles from neighbors and cops. It's not necessary to move it far, tho, less than a mile suffices.

I haven't been bothered once by the cops. I've got a 19 foot class C, smallest one you can find. The vans are class B's, but I found them to be very tight small and confining.

Right now, I'm sitting in a comfortable settee, looking out a big picture window at the back of the RV, drinking a glass of wine, making this post. The wine is fine, and the view is outstanding.

I love this lifestyle. I've got a whole home packed into a 19 foot vehicle, and I've got plenty of room! Crazy as that sounds, it's not cluttered, everything has it's place.

try parking someplace that you haven't PAID to park, and see how long it is before somebody sics the cops on you, in that RV! :)
