im 16. when i was younger i used to be really athletic. then i kind of became less athletic and more computer nerd over time. now im built. whenever i go to a gym people stare at me. im a bit short but i have great muscle mass.

anyway right now im trying to work on a six pack. and how does one get it? cardio and good eating. im eating much better, but gotta work on cardio. now to the problem.

a couple years ago i was on my basketball team and was running. it was at a practice. my coach was made us run a hell of a lot before, during, and after practice. anyway this practice was much harder than usual, and i pushed it really hard and ended up getting nauseous and taking a break. after a few minutes, i ended up throwing up. this was the first time.

i remember about 1-1.5 years ago i raced someone on my bike. pushed it too hard. ended up throwing up.

i used to play DDR, or dance dance revolution. its the game where you step on the pads in the directions (great excersize and women love it, though a bit expensive). i used to be fine, but i played it yesterday and had to take a break because i was getting nauseous. ive tried running before, but after like 2 minutes of decently fast speed, i throw up.

and its happened other times before.

WTF is wrong with me? why cant i run? am i just out of shape or should i see a doctor about this?

That's what I think too. Try doing slower/longer cardio sessions to see if that works. Instead of trying to run 7 minute miles, jog at a 10 minute mile pace...

Me agrees ;)

I had this too. There was a time I only did bodybuilding without cardio for like a year or so. Then I signed up on the swim team and there were timed 50 m swims.

Wanting to show how cool I was, I really pushed myself during the front crawl. In like 2 mins, the 50 m breaststroke also started. I pushed myself again.

After I got out of the pool, my vision was fuzzy and I couldn't catch my breath for like 5 mins and I was feeling worse and worse. I thought I was gonna die.

Then I just ran out and made a big mess in the shower room. :p 700 ml of apple juice and a sandwich were on the floor.

Now I make sure to make the first workout easy after a "comeback" from sitting on my ass for a few months. :D

you're definitely overdoing it. you should be walking fast or jogging at the most until you get into decent shape.

It's Lactic acid posioning.

You are over doing it. You're out of shape. It should subside once you get in better shape. Build up to how far and to what extent you want to exercise.

The only time I ever experience nausia was when I was in basic training in the Army. They forced us to run more than we could handle. Guys were dropping to the side of the road and puking...

Do you wait an hour or so after you eat before you work out?
If not try that. I use to eat and train but often threw up. So now I wait after I eat. It worked for me. If that's not the problem, try to lessen the intensity. Gradual intensity may be better for you.

1. Learn how to breathe
2. Stay hydrated
3. Pace yourself, as soon as you get dizzy, tap out for a while...
4. Get into shape :)

Great advice guys.

J-Man, they are right on the money. Wait 2 hours to run after you eat. Stay hydrated. The nausea is Lactic acid that Reto referred to. You're just not used to it = out of shape. Try running slower... "jog at a 10 minute mile pace instead of trying to run 7 minute mile pace." Go slow and just get it done. The more you run the more apt your body will be able to handle what you throw at it. Get back in shape.

"anyway right now im trying to work on a six pack. and how does one get it? cardio and good eating."

Yes. To show off the abs, you have to lower your bf%. That is the only way. Do ab work and your abs will strengthen/grow, but they won't be visible until you burn some fat. All about lowering bf%. Cardio + burn more calories than you take in. 3500 cals = 1 pound of fat. eat 500 cals less per day, and each week you'll lose 1 pound of fat. A very easy way to do this is cut caloric drinks (cokes, beer, whatever) and replace with water. Very easy to cut 500 cals per day if you just start drinking water instead.

I run track so I know where you're coming from, my advice to you is definately slow down. Just jog for awhile until you feel you can handle running at a faster pace. Like someone earlier said you NEED to stay hydrated so drink a lot of water. If you think you are drinking enough look at you pee, if its yellow you're dehydrated, if its clear you're good to go. Another good indicator is being thirsty, if you are thirsty you're dehydrated and need water. I myself usually eat about an hour and a half before I run because thats when my lunch period is but sometimes if I'm hungry I grab a little bite to eat like a Powerbar or something just so I have something in me, if you're running on empty your body will use muscle as fuel and not fat and thats just hurting your gains. So drink tons of water, run at a comfortable pace, and if you are hungry grab a small snack. You could also start out on a stationary bike to warm up or use that as a substitute for a week or so just so your heart and lungs can get used to the cardio. Good luck.
