I plan on going on a road trip solo right before I head off for college. I'll definitely be heading by Vegas - might even stay there the whole time.

I'm going to sleep in my car every night unless I can get a girl I meet to let me stay with her (I'm sure I'll be able to find one a couple of the nights). There should be some walmart parking lots i can crash in though

Basically I plan on spending a ridiculously low amount of money but going out and learning a bit about myself and have the time of their life.

Anyone have any experience with trips like this or have any advice?

Casino parking lots. I've done it myself. I lived there and used to crash in my van when I went out, rather than driving drunk. My van was pretty set up though, and I've banged plenty of chicks in it. My buddy said the Hard Rock, will get super crazy sometimes. I've stayed away, myself. I dont like $5 beers. If you're into punk/rocknroll, go to the Doubledown. I've walked out of there at 7:00AM , on several occasions. It's cheap too.

If I drink and get caught sleeping in my car by a cop how could I avoid a DUI? I know if you have the keys on your person you can be charged but what if I hide them somewhere?

I could really use a trip like this right now.... I suggest you have some sort of weapon in the car... A club or a bat.. Lots of morons out there looking to mug anyone for a few bucks so they can get drugs...

Make sure your car is up-to-snuff, and have a good spare tires....take break downs into account and be prepared.. deff get triple A..
When you get tired take breaks..don't fall asleep driving..

I would check state laws.. I'm not sure how that works..
I did see an episode of Everyone Loves ramond, when his wife was drunk and she fell asleep in the car after coming out of the party.. A cop tapped her window and saw that she was drunk, and he took her to jail because the keys were in the ignition.

You could hide the keys, but I dunno... I'm not sure how you would deal with this..

So don't drink too much.

After all if your blood alcohol levels are below .08 you should be fine.

I'm attempting something similar to a roadtrip this summer.

My stops include Yellowstone, Crater Lake, Zion National Park, Badlands SD, and San Francisco Bay, CA.

Figures it will take about two months entirely.

Cool thread...I've actually been making plans for a solo motorcycle journey across the US and maybe even into Canada. I'm probably going to bring a digicam and a laptop (stop at IHOP for WiFi) to make an online journal of it, and maybe even write a book about it once I'm done. Where would you guys recommend crashing at night if you're on a bike? KOA campgrounds? Abandoned farmhouses?

Maybe I've just watched Easy Rider a few too many times, but it seems like if I'm ever gonna do it, it would be while I'm young and don't have too many obligations.

Do it while it's fresh in your mind... You only live once, so I say go for it..
I'd be worrried about AZZholes picking on me though... I'm a sweet, little NY farm boy, so I'm not use to treading out of my own waters..:nervous:

I'd like to get the fvck out of here though..even for just a week.

I'm actually only going to be 18 years old on this trip so i'm starting to think vegas is not the best choice. I've heard its only catered to kids and 21+; so 18 year olds don't have many things to do. Anyone have any suggestions of places near Co I could go instead?

I'm going to do something like that one of these days..

Bring a 2 person tent(1 person is tiny) and bring a map that has camping zones listed. Stay at those, it's much more comfortable than a car, and you can meet some people in the camp grounds(beer, camp fires, guitar songs, etc).

Pack your own food, and go to big supermarkets and buy deli meat, cheese, and bread.

Always wanted to do this. Was my plan for after I graduated High School. But the rising Gas prices convinced me not too.

Visit the california coast line. If you want to LIVE here, and I mean at least 5 years in, you can make it. Spirits of adventure find it very welcome here but it's not for the faint of heart, especially when young.

If you're just stretching your legs however, cali is great. It's real easy to get lost there for a minute before you start to tackel the task of finding out what it really is you want to do with your life.

I do it all the time, I hate traveling with other people.

I just find some bush, trek in until I find a clearing, then pitch a tent, start the stove and bring a book. It's very relaxing and refreshing if you live in the city.

Fishing rod and surf board are optional.

If your looking to meet girls, go to the tourist spots as girls on holidays are much more receptive, looking for a holiday romance.

That sounds like a good idea. It'd be pretty cool to just wander along the coast line for a few days. Do people camp out on the beaches at all?

I may even head into Canada. I imagine I could have a lot more available to me as an 18 year old versus in the US.

The Calgary Stampede is in mid july and apparently it's pretty crazy. Anyone ever been?
