I really doubt I'm going to get a good answer to this, but why not.
Back when I was in my senior year of high school, my alarm clock broke. When I got a new clock, something weird happened. Every morning, without exception, I woke up exactly one minute before the alarm was supposed to ring (6:00am). On the weekends, or any other day the alarm was turned off, I would sleep until 10:30am. It seems to defy scientific explanation because, on the mornings I had to wake up early, it was pitch black -- there was no daylight to tell my body to wake up. I went to bed every night at different times, so there was no set interval. And how the hell did my body know to sleep in on the weekends?
The only thing I can think of is that the alarm clock was in my field of vision when I laid in bed. It's almost as if my eyes were open the whole time.
