I hate this delicate situation. How would you respond to the first time your girl says "I love you"? While one could say something like "I like hearing that", "That has a nice ring to it", or just start making out with her, if she pushes for you to say you love her back -- assuming you actually do love her -- would you tell her you do? AD was big on waiting a couple months before saying it, but it's hard to push it off when she is pushing you to say it. If you don't say it she might think you really don't love her and thus she shouldn't date you. On the other hand, making her wait builds challenge and interest and is better for the long term if you make it that far.

Just kiss her. That'll shut her up.

You can only kiss her for so long, then her lips are free to speak again...

As soon as she says it, green light. Seperate her from her panties and pound her.

Most often I hear it when she is already naked and I'm busy working on her (which is an excuse for not saying anything at that time). But when you're laying there afterwards and she says it again with a tone of expectation you have to do/say something...

Girl: "I love you DJB"
DJB: [starts kissing her]
Girl: Pulls back from the kiss, "Do you love me?"
DJB: "You know how I feel", starts kissing her again
Girl: Pulls back, "No I don't, do you love me too?"
DJB: "I prefer to let my actions rather than words do the talking"
Girl: Well I want to hear your words
DJB: "Instead how about you feel them", goes in for more kissing
Girl: Pulls away and gets up, "You don't love me"
DJB: "Why would you say that?"
Girl: "Because you won't say you love me"
DJB: "Come here", starts kissing her again
Girl: Pulls away, "I think you should leave"
DJB: "I think you talk too much when I'm trying to show you how I feel"

and so on.

When I dumped a girl last November she said "I love you" and I said "I know."

She paused.

I said "That was from Star Wars..."

She didn't smile.

So pulled up the Youtube of it and played that scene from Empire Strikes Back.

Never saw her again.

You dumped her or she dumped you? Or was this like How I Met Your Mother and, like Ted, you can't date someone who isn't a Star Wars fan?

Honestly, this is something that is hit or miss. Most of the time a coy response works out well enough in the short run and gets the hamster going. However, some chicks just plain want to hear the same words from you. Sounds like you may have a chick that isn't responding to your aloof responses, so if you want her to stick around FOR THE LONG HAUL, it would probably be in your best interest to reciprocate.

I was paraphrasing a conversation I had with a girl a while back -- I wouldn't say she was my girlfriend, just someone I dated, because it didn't last much longer after that. I do not want to deal with that again, but I guess you just have to get a feel for the kind of girl you're with and hope you play your cards right. I think the safest thing to do for the first response would be to say nothing at all and just kiss her. If she persists perhaps say it since she said it first.

Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.

Berg's a romantic after all!

Ha. I second the kissing idea, though.

Or, you could be funny about it. Say something like "I love lamp."

Haha. Romantic. I just know how to get out of awkward situations without saying anything that might bite me in the arse later.

Last week, some girl I've been dating said to me, "I've really been having an awesome time with you. So if you want to stop seeing other people, I'd be into that."

I responded with, "Yeahh...I've been having fun with you too. Let's see where things go."

By "things," you mean penis. "Where" is always the more interesting question. Ha!

Our egos are that high and we have to protect ourselves that much emotionally that if a girl says I love you, we say "I like hearing that."?

Guess there is no right or wrong response, but it sounds like we are turning into a bunch of very cynical guys who resent women.

Don't always be the one putting yourself out for her. Don't always be the one putting all the effort and work into the relationship. Let her, and expect her, to treat you as well as you treat her, and to improve the quality of your life.
