Some of you might have seen it on Yahoo Health News today. It's just been officially revealed that red meat is said to be one of the primary causes of lung cancer. Is there anything that's safe to eat these days?

That is total bullsh*t! People have been eating red meat since they were primates. Why on earth would it cause cancer just in the lungs? The research is probably biased as hell, since the American Diet is cr*p anyways, they probably have the wrong thing that's causing lung cancer. I'm pretty sure white bread, cereal and candy are more likely to cause lung cancer than RED MEAT!

This kind of disturbs me. Humans are omnivores. Just by looking at and feeling your teeth you can tell we evolved to also eat meat. IMO this study doesn't mean anything. There are so many things in our world that can give you cancer. Honestly if I can live till I'm 90 by not eating meat or die of cancer when I'm 75 because of eating meat. I'll keep having my steak, bacon and hamburgers. Humans are living too long anyways.

Umm...no. Id be more inclined to believe that its a secondary cause, but saying smoking cigarettes and eating red meat gives me an equal opportunity to develop lung cancer is horsesh*t.

Sounds like PETA and those tree hugging vegans are going overboard. I'm a savage and carnivore like noone else. Red meat is the best thing for me to eat, pvssy aside  ! In high school after football practice me and the other linemen would go to the grocery store and eat london broil raw, right there in line waiting to check out. The looks of the people there as we we're knawing on raw flesh like built vampires was perfect and unforgetable.

Nonetheless, the correlation between the dreaded C and eating red meat is complete horsesh!t. Scientists been wishy washy for decades about the health benefits of eggs and coffee and chocolate too.

It all depends on who is funding thier agenda.

I don't recall the link off head, but if I get a chance over the weekend, I'll do a search for it on Yahoo. It was one of those featured stories Yahoo puts on the front of its home page when you're about to check your e-mail.

i once read a study a decade ago that stated that if women ate the red meat well done all the time they had a greater chance of developing breast cancer as opposed to other women who ate their red meat medium well.

if this is true, shouldn't we stop over cooking food and still continue to eat?

Then I'll have a prostate riddled with C. The cure will be to eat more Vitamin P!

The problem is the overload of information.. Everything is bad according to someone. We need to use our instinct and not over analyze all the information lest we paint ourselves into the proverbial corner limiting our joy and experiences in life. Do what you thinks best, then don't stress about it.

Yeah sounds like a load of bollocks to me to borrow a word from my UK buddies.

If you want to avoid health risks with red meat just fully cook it and don't burn the sh!t out of it and then you'll be alright as by being fully cooked but not burnt you kill any ecoli bacteria living in it and as another poster said by not burning it you reduce or completely prevent the carcinogens from being in the meat.

No it's just that Western Cultures have sh*t diet. Look at Asian countries their diet is so much better and their cases of cancer is so much lower. The main cause of cancer in those countries are smoking and drinking not from RED MEAT or JUNK FOOD.

There are two guys posting in the health forum with names like 'nip/tuck' and 'PlasticSurgeon'... and that doesn't seem strange to anyone? :p

Anyways, I'm still gonna eat steak. I don't care. Cows are tasty.

Ingrid Newkirk can lick my nuts and suck my **** while bending over backwards, nursing a baby seal back to heath and humming 'La Wally' all simutainously. That woman could use a firm '**** slap' right across the face, in my humble opinion.

Perhaps you received my statement wrong, because your comment is something i agree with all the way. I meant that it is ridiculous how they blame a lot of things causing cancer.

the science in this study appears to be absolutely terrible. i don't see any controls discussed in the yahoo article, and the categories are useless. for example, it's widely believed that nitrates & nitrites in processed meats contribute to cancer. but there's no way to tease that out. blackening any meat produces carcinogens, but there's no way to tease that out either given their methods.

another scare-mongering bit of 'epidemiology' that gives a nice headline so it gets attention that would better be devoted to real research.

the conclusions put forward by the "public interest" groups about how you should modify your behavior are nonsensical and unjustified by the study. the american cancer society is part of the problem, not the solution.

Oh I actually thought you were serious. My bad. What they should do is suggest alternatives if red meat causes cancer. I bet they'll endorse vegetarianism.
