I'm new to the board, so I'll give a little background. I'm a strange guy. I was always a little different, but I'd rather be this way than normal. I was always shy, but funny and was always surrounded by friends.
I got hit hard with social anxiety a year ago. I dropped out of high school and had no drive to leave my bed or do anything. So I enventually got out of that, got my diploma with a loophole in the system, and now I go to college.
My only problem is that I like being alone too much. Its something I got used to from last year. I can start convos with people, but I can't make it a friendship. I eventually disappear for a few days and come back.
What I need is advice to joke about myself. How do you not take yourself so seriously and joke about how you have social anxiety and just need to get away from people?

find a hobby that involves other people. cycling, weight training at the gym(i have met tons of people just BS'ing inbetween sets), rock climbing, be creative. find something that will keep your body active and around other people.

p.s. "social anxiety" is BS. you have created your mental state and it's not some "condition" you have. if you keep believing in these "diseases" you will only hurt yourself. you need to tell yourself that you don't have any of these "diseases" and just get out and do ****. i used to be introverted and wanted to keep to myself. it was my outlook on life, not some "disease."

Its not BS. Some people have it very badly due to chemical imbalances, however it can be overcome thru sheer force of will.

Last year i got hit with TERRIBLE anxiety attacks out of the blue. a couple days after i got hit my body and my mind were totally fucced.

I was physically ill, which may have been a bad coincidence having the attacks a couple days before i contracted a very debilitating virus. I had Mono like symptoms for a couple weeks along with complete mental anguish/anxiety attacks.

Well i went to like 4 therapy sesssions which helped immensely, its great just to talk about problems. Very therapuetic.

My anxiety wasnt of the social kind. It just came out of no where. Well i had a hard time adjusting because i quit all drug use at the time, which burned alot of bridges with alot of people. I became a recluse for a few months, reading alot and writing alot.

I have since then come back to normal for the most part altho my experiences have changed me as a person. I dont have any anxiety attacks and i can walk into a party with no problem, other then the normal excitement and anxiety one feels before they enter some place fun or crazy ya know.

You can overcome this, you just have to learn to be comfortable in front of people.

My old friend had terrible social anxiety. He would tell me that when he was in class and everyone had to introduce themselves and name something they liked he would have a full blown attack. Something like this is not jsut learned but is due to chemical imbalance, its not all BS, contrary to some of your beliefs.

As i said i am an avid believer in the power of the mind and of your will. If you really want to overcome something, you can. I did.

julian first you say it's a disease based on "chemical imbalances" and then you say it can be defeated by will power. exactly how did will power magically "balance" your body's "chemicals" out?

"social anxiety" keeps therapists in business. just keep eating up that BS and keep giving them your money. me and the rest of the men like player supreme will get by on our own.
