I have been looking through various websites for what to look for before buying a whey protein. One is the isolate vs concentrate, and the general consensus seems to say that isolate is preferable as it contains more protein than the concentrate, but nobody seems to have said anything about how to choose between two whey protein isolates, for example.

I remember a friend of mine said something that there are a lot of crap whey protein out there. Now this got me a bit evaluative in selecting whey protein powders, as I do not know how to identify a good vs bad whey protein. How do I know if the powder sold at Target is better/worse than at Costco or a health store? Is there anything in the Ingredients section I need to watch out for? Or probably in the Nutritional Facts?

I buy an isolate/concentrate combo...Most of the good ones will be this combo. I only will roll with Dymatize, ON, True protein. That's it and these past years I have not had any issues with none of these. Always check if it's "Manufactured By said company" . Better quality and price when the company manufacture's all their own stuff. Oh the prolabs replacements meals are the **** too..(has oats as main carb source if I remember correctly).

I can't say much for all the other ones..but I do advise to stay away from what is carried in most chain stores and stuff most the time they taste like ****.....literally

Dymatize Chocolate Mint is awesome...Optimum Nutrition's Strawberry, chocolate flavors are awesome too.....Trust me you won't be disappointed

Yeah the best time to take liquid shakes is before, during and after work outs but don't hesitate to mix up some concoctions at other times of the day to get in your protein for the day. As long as you're not getting more than 50-60% of your protein from powder you should be fine (then again I have friends who will go through a lot np LOl)

Quick breakfast you can do....cook up a bowl of oatmeal (1-2 cups), make sure to add a good amount of water, so it's a bit musy/watery still after you cook it and than throw in 2 scoops of whatever whey protein . Add blueberries/strawberries and even some splenda or honey to sweeten it up more. Handful or two of some raw almonds or walnuts after and that's an awesome filling breakfast to get you started for the day.

Whey protein+cottage cheese and natural peanut butter=awesome pre-bed meal.

whey protein+quick rolled oats+plus 2 tablespoons olive oil or macadamia nut oil in a shaker bottle = quick mass shake.

Whey Protein is an excellent alternative to proteins found natural foods, and is very popular with veggie eaters. Depends if you are looking for just protein or a protein carb blend, with added extras like creatine, etc.

Personally, I just go for the bog standard whey protein from myprotein.co.uk

You don't actually need any powders to get enough protein in you. You can just eat meat, eggs, milk, etc. The shakes are more just for convenience. I have been eating hardly any shakes lately as I have more time on my hands.

Just go with Gold Standard. It's the best selling one (in the States) and it's reasonably priced. I used to think the Isopure stuff was amazing because it had 50 g in each serving. But each serving is 3 scoops! Gold standard has 24 g in one scoop.

I'd say go with Gold Standard and also get creatine.

Dymatize Elite Whey or Elite 12 hour.

Both very high-quality and value-priced. $25.88 for a 5-pounder at Discountsupplements.com
