Just for the combination of things your suggesting it's at least $100!! i couldn't find the proscar on universalkits.com, the place hasn't got a search, and everywhere i search for 5% minoxidil it's part of 'regain' or 'rogain' which is $60 by itself.

I'll have another browse but do think just nizoral on its own is enough? i've definatley got a bit of an itchy scalp which is a good enough reason on its own to get some of this stuff.
Chalk where do you live?

You can get proscar from nearly anywhere.

Go to this forum and do a search for proscar http://www.hairlosshelp.com/forums/categories.cfm?catid=10 and ask around for good advice.

And the Nizoral will do between very little and nothing to stop hairloss.

Also if you want Minoxidil get the generic stuff, do a search for Kirkland Minoxidil - you can even get it from ebay.

cool, thanks man.

BUT..........

BLEH!

I would love to have my hair stop this receeding lark but I just can't bring myself to spend the money and invest the time thats needed. I'm planning on traveling again at some point so theres no point in doing all these things for a few months and then stopping is there? According to most of the people on these various chemicals it takes up to a year to notice anything, and before that your hair thins alot so it can regrow.

Maybe when i'm settled and bald at forty and have a million to spare.

SHaved head here we come.

Chalk the most cost effective and easiest thing to do would be to get some Proscar, cut it up into 4 pieces and simply take a piece a day. This works out very, very cheap.

The main cause of hairloss in men is DHT and proscar/propecia simply lowers this DHT in your body.

The chances of side-effects - slighty lower sex drive, less semen etc are low, infact most people don't experience any side effects but even if you do you can stop and they'll dissapear in a few days.

You might have an increase in shedding after a couple of months taking it, but many people don't have a shed and actually see steady improvements after 3/4 months.
'Shed' sounds like a scary word but in reality its only noticable to yourself, its not like half of your hair falls out or anything.

About 80% of users keep their hair just with proscar/propecia and a good percentage actually see improvements - thickening and regrowth.

I take Proscar myself for a thinning crown, my sex drive as it ever was, and my hair is very slowy improving.

If your bothered about the hassle, then yes Minox can be a hassle - messy, greasy and takes a long time to dry and thats why personally I don't use it.

Having said all that, if you can accept hairloss, shave your head and get on with life then it probably is the best option.

I'd be careful about taking Proscar/Propecia. All the research I have read (that was not sponsored by Merck), indicates that the occurance of side effects is much higher than the 2% in the Merck clinical trials. Also, these drugs have only been used as hair loss drugs since 1997, so its not a long time when you consider that someone in their early twenties should take the drug for life!

Finally, these drugs are NOT hair loss drugs per say. They were designed for older men suffering from an enlarged prostate. The side effect of the prostate drug was that hair loss stopped. Now the risk of having an enlarged prostate when you're in your mid fifties for example, outweighs the side sexual effects of the drug, however, the drug was not designed for men in their early twenties with a normal prostate.

If you do take the drug via a prescription, the doc will ask if you have a history of protate cancer in your family since taking the drug will f*ck up any prostate check ups you should have.

Also, I have read that an enlarged prostate is an early warning sign that things are not right and could lead to cancer. However, for men taking proscar, given that the prostate does not enlarge, the warning sign is no longer there, yet the risk of cancer still is, therefore, once the docs discover the cancer, it is usually in a more advanced stage.

Be carefull guys and do tons of research before taking powerful drugs your whole life.

What you say about detection is true. However the incidence of prostate cancer in males under 40 is pretty non-existent.

I'd be more worried about long term use and long term DHT reduction. It has a number of roles in the body, and not all are known.

For instance it had recently been suggested that it plays an important role in calcium depositation in bones.

it's true that it's non existant before age 40. what I meant was that perhaps, by the time some dude is 50, after having taken the drug for 25 years or so, he may have a hardcore case of cancer because they wouldn't have been able to detect the enlargement between ages 40 to 50 for example.

Thats assuming that someone will take this for the rest of their lives.
With any luck within the next few years they'll be a more powerful/less side-effect hairloss treatment available.

Its all very interesting.

I think the main factor for me is i don't like the thought of being dependent on a drug for the rest of my life, no matter what it is, and then if i stop taking it have all my hair start falling out again!!

If it was a once a month pill i might think about it, but every day would be a bit too much i think.

Interesting about the Nizoral 2%. It is a normal shampoo. Hmm will have to try it.

But just don't expect it to stop hairloss.

I'm now in my early thirties and first noticed my receeding hairline when I was in my late teens and was leading to a total loss in self confidence around women.

So I know where a lot of you guys are coming from. You know what the best remedy is.........SHAVE IT ALL OFF!!

I shaved all my hair off about 12 months ago and have never looked back, I get more attention off women now than ever.

Recently I was in a bar when a women approached me asking if it was true what they said about bald men about us being more sexually virile. To which I answered in a c & f way with a big grin on my face 'I don't know I'm saveing myself for the right girl'
Needless to say I later found out that she had her left nipple pierced and a tatoo of a butterfly on her ar$e! :D

I will add though if you're gonna shave all your hair off, you'd better hit the gym cos there's nothing worse than a skinny bald bloke who looks like Moby :D

Im currently on the Proscar, Rogiane, Nizroal stack.

I recently got my hands on some Tribulus. Would it be wise to take it?

PS Proscar causes testosterone to increase by 10% :D

PPS For all those saying "Uh couldnt be bothered... I can wait" you should start taking it now. This stuff doesnt start working until its been in your system for 2 to 3 months AT BEST. AND it actually causes MORE hair loss (at first). Imagine how your hairline will look 2 months down the track from now... then you start taking these drugs and loose even more hair. Think ahead ;)
