Ahhh, done! ;)

jakethasnake, are you sure it's a black guy-white guy thing?

I mean, guys at the gym are usually either submissive to each other (bigger guys) or looking intimidating (to smaller guys)...
Sometimes smaller guys try to look big trying to be at least equal.

It's funny how at gym the biggest guy is always the one everyone looks up even outside gym he wouldn't.

I'm convinced. White guys do not front to black guys in the gym. Period. The front to any other race of men though - Latino, Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern, etc. There's an unspoken redneck code where it's socially unacceptable to give shytto blacks ("because it's racist and BAD), whereas the other less numerous, less empowered groups seem to be fair game in their eyes. I will never back down from a single one of those muthafukkers. I go to a pretty darn white school, you see - ignorance and white privilige reign supreme.

Well, 99,5% of people I see here are white, so I don't really know. :D

Time for another addition...

I went to lunch with a female friend today. On her way to the bar three guys surrounded her and started coming onto her. They were very forward, were touching her and clearly scaring her, so I went over to see if she was ok.

The guys were around the same age as me and very rough...typical thugs. One of them had a scar across his face and gold teeth, and all three were giving off a loud and intimidating vibe. I confess, I expected them to give me trouble and I was a little afraid, but before I even said a word, the strangest thing happened:

One of the guys looked me up and down, turned to his friend and told him "hey, knock it off, her fella is here". Then they all suddenly backed off! The next thing I know, they start apologising to us, explaining they meant no harm and were just being "friendly". I'm realistic enough to know the three of them could have kicked my a$$, but there was this instant show of respect from them. It's the first time this has happened!

My friend has a boyfriend, but she has previously admitted she has the hots for me and today really impressed her. She even told her friend about it on the phone and kept bringing up how they mistook me for her boyfriend and she kept "joking" all day that she will pretend to be my girlfriend more often. :)

Jariel, so you think it was your looks then that gave you respect out there?

I've also gotten more positive reactions since I've started working out consistently about 3 years ago. Before then almost no women gave me overt signals. Now a fair portion do, but not to the extent that you descibe! My problem is that I have a slender bone structure - so although I have a fair bit of muscle, it really doesn't show thru when I have all my clothes on. I'm the kind of guy who looks lean n' buff at the beach, but very, very normal when he has his shirt or sweater on.
I have a similair sort of structure...but the GODZILLA look isn't in anyway!! It's all about proportions for YOUR body type.

Jariel, nice story.

What I notice is that in a club previously if I bumped into someone they would get mad and glare at me. Nowadays they say sorry even if it is my fault. I also have noticed that people generally look up to me more and seem eager not to offend me.

I have also had some very nice compliments from girls over my body. One girl is fixated with my muscular hairy chest and tries to get me to strip at every avaliable opportunity. To tease her I walk around my student house topless-which drives her wild. Another felt under my shirt during clubbing and said with wonder "Do you do sports?" and said to my friend later that i had a perfect body.

I also think it is no coincidence that i got the number of the hottest girl i have ever number-closed (easily a 9) while wearing a toga that left little to the imagination. We had a couple of dates but then i turned into a wussy.

I conclude that working out has done more for my confidence and looks and game than anything else.

I believe so, and my friend also thinks it was because I'm "muscular". She thinks I could have taken them on, though I disagree.

However, I carry myself with a lot more confidence and have a presence (I'm told) since bulking, so maybe this was a factor too.

I absolutely agree and it must be great feeling so confident and proud to walk around shirtless or in a toga! I still have a bit more cutting before I get to that, but that sense of self-pride must show to women...not to mention the physical appeal of a great body.

lol, thanks Jariel. I still have a long way to go with my body-legs, abs and shoulders are fantastic but struggling to put muscle on my chest and arms. I am sure you will look super by the spring once you have finished cutting! Then it is time for you to jog outside topless and enjoy the wolf-whistles!

I would be interested to have a chat with you about weightlifting, so PM me if you are interested.

What is great about weightlifting is that anyone can sculpt their body until it looks better than 95% of guys. It takes time and effort but it is worth it. Whereas, you can only improve your face to a certain extent and then have to accept what god gave you.

Out of interest, how much of a man's looks are characterised by their body as opposed to their face? With girls I am prepared to compromise quite a bit on looks provided they have a sexy body that turns me on. Do girls think the same?

Well I don't know about that but I can tell you that your face changes as you get rid of or add weight... Probably something with how well the structure + bones are seen and something with the neck.

I had my first negative reaction to my new physique recently.

I met up with a group of old friends who I haven't seen for a year. Among them was a girl who was all over me last time she saw me, yet she clearly didn't approve of my new look. She asked if I had been hitting the gym. I was kind of expecting her to admire me for it, yet (turning to the group) she said "all that muscle and macho stuff does nothing for me. I go for pretty boys".

I didn't take it as an insult as such, more a realisation that different women have different tastes. I think there may be other girls who preferred my former slim and metrosexual look too.

Just thought I'd share that in the interest of honesty. However, I feel good about myself and I've had far more positive reactions than negative ones so I have no regrets.

Just thought I'd add another update.

Since my last post, I'm much more cut and though I lost some muscle mass in the process, I'm now looking "athletic" as opposed to "big" or bulked up.

I have also reverted back to my former metrosexual image, which complements my new shape rather well.

Right now I am completely overwhelmed with female attention. I am literally turning heads and have women trying to pick me up regularly. Random people (male and female) have asked me if I'm a model, and strangely enough I was recently scouted to take part in a modelling competition.

Given my experience, I would strongly advise aiming for a chiselled and healthy physique over size.

Jariel,

You've paid the dues, now you are reaping the rewards.

Good luck with the modelling, 27 though, I thought they like 'em young?

I don't really agree that it's worthless if he didn't **** her. ****ing isn't everything guys... we can be friends with girls too... in fact I think you'd keep them around longer than sexual partners or even romantic ones.

Carrying girls is a lot of fun, I did that once on a first date with a girl. It was icy and I didn't want her slipping, so I carried her over the ice to the movie we were going to see (we had to take a bus from our meeting place to get there). Nearly slipping myself didn't help, nor did the fact that I got the idea from hearing her tell me that people always pick her up because she's so light (100 lbs), but I think overall it was still a good thing to do.

I'm sure your girl was harder to lift, especially up a flight of stairs, so I'm still more impressed with your gesture. Especially since I asked... I shouldn't have asked. Hearing her ex boyfriend lived near the theatre didn't help either, had to keep an eye open. It's a shame I called that off... damn distance limitations. She was really neat and did ballet and photography.

Mens health said a while back after a poll, that only 50% of women like a very muscular physique.

Now when you consider how many scrawny and fat guys there are running around, I like those numbers.

Muscle is attractive to women for a few reasons, but the biggest one is dominance. Alpha male is meant to be a domineering, strong protector and provider. Muscle growth also shows high levels of testosterone, whcih means fertility.

You do the math. She might agree with Oprah, but she cant fight instinct. Or the itch :)
