Are there any ways to improve your reaction time and reflexes? Or is it just genetic? Also, what are the negetive side effects of adreneline, if there are any?

I don't really know. I also noticed I react faster in tournaments to what the opponent does, but I think that's just cause there ain't a million punches, so you kinda start to learn what's going to happen, and your reflexes are getting kinda drilled. If somebody punched me before, I'd do some stupid movie parring, now I'd do the drilled one, I'm talking about more then 10.000 repetitions over the years. But the reaction time itself, I really wouldn't know. reflexes can be trained though, otherwise the special ops etc.. wouldn't have special trainings for them.

you can improve your overall reaction time by playing video games and fast-paced sports. Also, fighting others increases your reaction time and acting capabilities in short time frames.


Adrenaline -


decreases your ability to think and act properly

prevents you from performing complicated tasks.
examples include piano recitals, bomb defusing, and test taking.

So when a person is in "the zone", they are not running on adrenaline? I think they are running on adrenaline, but their mind can still function instead of running on adrenaline alone.

California Love, I was thinking more long term side effects.. Like maybe addiction, or developing resistance, or maybe muscle damage from over exertion.

Sign up for some baseball, it made my reaction a lot faster since you have to react quickly when the ball is hit to you pretty fast.

Ruler Test

Person A - holds ruler
Person B - Person being tested

1. Person A holds ruler 6 inches or so above Person B.
2. Person A drops ruler.
3. Person B catches

Just keep doing this, and see if you progress by where you catch the ruler (at what CM mark).

Or, you could try Matrix Style and get someone to shoot you and try dodging it. (Not recommended though :) )

Well no, I'd just like to have faster reflexes in general, which could be applied to pretty much any sport as well as other areas. If it was something specific, such as batting, I know that you could just practice and practice until that action is hammered into your brain and then you can react faster because you dont have to think about it first, you just do it. I dont have anything specific like that though.

As far as reacting to things being hurled at you, take up juggling. I did, and after I learned to juggle well, (about 5 mins straight juggling with no drops) I caught anything thrown at me and became a pretty good soccer goalie. Before I was a total klutz, couldn't even catch a ball.

Lol yeah good idea.. I've started learning to juggle, but damn, it'll be a while before i can go anywhere near 5 minutes.

No one has mentioned...plyometrics?? It isn't directly reaction time, but, one you do initially react, you'll be quicker. Essentially the same solution.

he guy who talked about drilling is mainly there.
From a MA p.o.v, you go through thousands of repatitions and you begin to see things before their really initiated.
There are things such as real and percieved speed.
Real speed would be when you throw out a jab and catch the guy off guard because you are relaxed and fast./
Percieved speed would be when either your lunging forward slowly(ish) and jabbing at the same time slowly(ish). Individually they are slow, but from the other guys pov your moving fast. The other one based on this would be that through drilling, you recognize the tensing of the shoulder before a shot if thrown out. Now from his pov, your beating him to the punch every time, or when his leg is on its way to your head, your already gone to the side of him and pounding him into the dirt, but from your pov, your just recognising the build up sign better.

Also I believe the ruler ting is a test, don't know if you could use it to increase your reaction rate, although it would be worth a try.

You are either born with fast reflexes or you are not! It can only be improved on slightly by doing excersises that increase your fast twitch fibres, or some sh*t like that. I heard doing pushups helps. Although I was born with real fast reflexes so I never needed to increase speed etc

What exactly do you want to increase it for?

If it is for martial arts, boxing etc just do a heap of training, especially things like shadow boxing etc. This will help you reach your maximum speed, doing a lot of sparring will help your reflexes.

As far as adrenaline, Too much is definately bad, but a little always helps.

How exactly does it sound like bulls*it. Actually it is quiet obvious. Have you ever heard of Roy Jones Jr?

If you have heard of him and know who heis , watch how damn fast he is. His reflexes are tremendous. If you werent born with it and you could simply aquire it through training, wouldnt everyone do his same training reigeme?

DJing helps me. Everything has to be right on time. Even scratching, it has to be within the beats. I have to train myself to make the appropriate adjustments only from what I hear.

KI ENERGY!!!!!!

If you want to have 'paranormal' speed, you should start learning KI (or CHI) energy manipulation. If you believe in the energy and it seems normal to you, you will progress VERY quickly.

One guy that was good a KI energy manipulation could put 12 hits on an enemy within 1 second (aka 12 punches to the body).

Not only that, but you can also throw 'heat' punches, slow down how you percieve time (quicker reaction time), and much more :)
