I used to suffer with this real bad. What worked for me was a combination of things. Using a 2-3 bladed razor. Make sure it's clean for every use and replace it after several uses before it gets blunt.

Secondly, before shaving, apply hot water to your face with a flannel in order to open your pores and soften stubble. This makes a big difference and should reduce the "pulling" when you shave.

Also, try using a shaving gel as opposed to foam. Apply cold water to your face after you shave and lastly, moisturise regularly after shaving.

Oh yes, take your time when shaving too and rinse razor after every stroke!

I don't get any razor burn with my electric razor, and the shave is just as close.

another tip is to shave near the end of, or right after, a hot shower. the steam will have opened your pores pretty good.

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

In the morning, after I shower, I put on this sweet ass cream (Gillette Series Gel, 198g), and shave with a 3 blade. It is so hard to cut myself!

Besides, burn is caused by the razor stripping off a bit of the lively skin, so the combination of the shower/gel/razor, shaving daily and taking it easy might help.

I put an astringent on my face after I shave to prevent razor burn and breakouts. Witch Hazel works well and is ridiculously cheap.

Also, your shaving method is important. As others have noted, using a fresh blade right after a warm shower makes it much, much easier.

I shave my head 3-4 times a week and what I've learned is to start with a good hot shower. The steam will help open your pores and the follicle won't be so tough. Also, don't skimp on a good shave gel (foams only clog you up). Aveeno makes a very well rounded gel. Most importantly USE A 3-4 BLADE RAZOR! Please don't think a bic razor is anywhere near the same quality as Nitro or Quattro.

But the trick that really helps, Witch hazel. Right outta the shower. keeps away bumps and seals in moisture. Follw that up with a good moisturizer ( I use Skin Milk).

There ya go, my routine. Any questions let me know.

Solid!
Good Advice All.

Guess I'll check out one of the Gels, as well as some witch hazel.
Whats the scoop w. that though? Use it as an aftershave?

As far as multiple blades... got the fusion, so alls good on that front. lol

Also how about the dudes in here that shave daily?
You find that that helps?

Scared to hit it like that... lol, I think my sh!t would ignite, not lookin pretty.
I like rockin' my dirty stubble look anyway, but just wondered if that method beats the clock or anything?

chicks at strip clubs suggest you use white stick deodorant in areas that are prone to razor burn as soon as you shave.

Yeah, just splash a little on after you finish shaving. It feels fairly soothing to me.
