What is a good amount of weight to move up in the bench like within a few weeks?
Is 5 pounds a week increase good or is that not possible ..

is there such thing as muscle memory say if u dont work out for a while and u lose weight on the bench and this would help u work up to it fast to where u originally were

More information is really needed to answer your benching question. Beginners would most likely make much larger gains, while veterans to BBing would see less dramatic results. Also, things such as improvement in form can affect your poundage. Lastly are you talking about one rep max or what? I find a more beneficial test of strength is what you can do three sets of eight with. Once you don't need assistance with the weight, then you bump it. Maxing does little for strength or muscle gain.
From personal experiences and what I read I believe muscle memory to be real.

Oh..and this summer I went from 138lbs to 150lbs and one rep max on the bench went from 145lbs to 215lbs. I'd been working out about a year before this, but this was done with an extremely large bulking diet, and a dedication to improving myself. I guess what I'm trying to say is diet and rest are as least as important as what your doing in the gym in order to increase poundage as well as how you look.

It's a badly-kept secret.
The way I work out...

I consider myself progressing if I:
- progress the weight I am moving
- crank out an extra rep at the previous weight
- stay at the same weight and reps BUT feel more comfortable

Simple as that. And any progression is good progression.
