this is something I've always wondered, but have never quite figured out. When you go to a movie, what's the point of making out. I mean if the movie sucks, why did you go to it? Couldn't you just go somewhere for free and make out instead (be somewhat cheaper). Or if the movies good, I'd rather makeout somewhere else and not waste 6 bucks missing a good movie.

Please give me your opinions on this, because it's something I havn't been able to figure out. No flames please.

Its a casual date. You see the common man is nervous and is afraid to ruin the first date. By going to the movies, both parties rarely have the time to speak, thus the chance of saying something stupid is slim. Awkward silence is practicely inexisitent.

Think of it as a stress-free date.

movies give you a reason to make out. You have almost or more than 2 hours and they are just fun in general and I mean if you want to watch the movie you shouldn't of taken some one with you. It is also dark so you can do whatever you want and it has the thrill of making out right next to a ton of people with out them evenn knowing so it gives you this kind of rush and then when you bring a lot of friends you can all go out and do something like orgey on the beach. just kidding.

One could make out anywhere. Go home, and turn off the lights.

The next step deviates into two options:

A) Invite your girlfriend.

B) Pull down that teddy bear of the shelf, and work it!

Walla, no need for movies. Movie theaters provide a comfortable atmosphere, in which no one is really in anyone's face. It gives us the "right to remain silent."

I don't go to movies to make out, I go to them to watch the damn movie (I don't know how it is in other places, but in NYC tickets are relatively expensive). If my girl wants to see a movie, I make sure its one that I want to see if I'm paying for it, and I spend the majority of the time actually watching it. The point is basically, you spend money on movies to watch them, not to make out with someone. You can go anywhere free to make out, and if its at your house it is much easier to progress into more sexual things.

But see you gotta get her to your house before advancing that far, and how do you do that? Turn her on during a date.

Frankly, given the choice of 15 minutes of movie or 15 minutes of making out I know which one I'd choose even if I had paid for the damn tickets.

I believe that they are a hangover from the days when you asked your girlfriends father permission before taking her out, since it was seen as a non threatening date. I mean whats the worst that could happen and you are likely to be surrounded by many people. Then it evolved that an older generation thought that was what you did with a girlfriend.

Now, it has become the classic first date and as such does not involve much effort or originality. Plus inviting a girl alone to watch a film is a pretty good indication that I want to get off with her. Every time I have taken a girl to the movies/invited her over/gone to hers to see a film, I have ended up kissing her, often a lot more. Its pretty much code for do you want to come over and keep me company. Plus hell, if its a good movie, you can always keep watching and hold her head down in your lap :p.

It's a waste to go to the movies just to makeout. If you don't have a free crib and can't find a friend with one go to a park-hell, it's free.

I don't know the ticket prices in your area but in new york (especially manhattan) tickets are a rip off. If I go to a movie I want to see and a girl happens to come along, making out is usually an incidental occurance. But to make it my prime objective during a movie like Sin City that costs money, yeah right!

I agree with you prophett. I was just kind of joking. I live in kentucky and the drive in movie is like $1.00. Really cheap and there are a ton of drive ins here. I am not so sure about in NYC. And a movie at the theatre is like $6.00 a person. Usually I go to good movies so I also like to actually watch the movie.

pshh **** that, the movies is known for the place to make out. to me, makin out with a chik and watchin a movie while eating popcorn is completely worth 6 bux. if your realy mad that u mised the movie while makin out with ur girlfriend, then u can always go see it again, or wait and rent it when it comes out on DVD. Jeese ppl r 2 cheap and greedy these days...

Speaking of the movies. I just went to see Star Wars Episode 3. I went by my self because I don't know anyone since I moved. Anyway it was awesome. Have you ever seen a movie with no one else there. I mean I could of jacked off to padme and nobody would of ever known. I didn't of course but I was tempted to.

It was like having your own movie theatre and thousands of dollars worth of speakers and equipment for $6.00. It was truly an experience.:woo:
The movie was good btw.

i agree with the stupidity to spend 8 bucks (i wish it were 6, since i go once a week:)) for something you could do for free elsewhere...

if the movie is crappy, then I probably would make out. If its an interesting movie, then I will be watching the movie.

In central London they are like £15/20, go further out, away from the centre.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

If you go to the suburbs they are as little as £5, but in central london, like Leicester square in the big blockbuster cinemas

thats 17 per adult. However, if you are cunning, you can book child tickets, or even student ones. It also depends on the showing.

my thinkings along the lines of prophet and isaic, I'd rather go someplace free to make out, and that's why I was asking. I don't usually go to boring movies, so I'd rather not spend $12 bucks on movie tickets, and then another $10ish for food/drinks, when I can go someplace else for free to make out.

Thanks for all of your replies, if anyone else has more thoughts they want to add, go for it. The more the merrier.
