question about googling

alright to be honest lately i have been hearing alot about googling names and stuff on google.com so today i tried searching for my name. and there was alot of pages so i just said screw it. I took a look at the first few pages and i was done. so i typed in my username and it had my info about me. so now im kinda freaked out cause how safe is google.com i dont want people knowing that much about me.

I even heard people can look you up if they want to and find stuff about you.

so my questions are can people really find information about you by googling you? and if so how much info? pease help thanks.

good idea. but if someone was to google me does that mean they will know alot about me? see im not very smart when it comes to computers.

Generally speaking, things like google will only find information you make public. If you decided to post a picture of yourself, your full name and address, phone number, and bank information, somewhere online, then yeah, you should be a bit worried.

If you're worried about somebody finding out private information that you have not revealed publicly online.. Well it might be possible if they're very motivated but generally I wouldn't worry.

If people know your address they can find out your phone number and other information via property tax records and other public records. Some of which are available online..

Search on google "your county name tax collector" ... If your county is somewhat rich you should have an online application where you can look up your address for property taxes..

Other useful information, including your social security number, can be dug up using applications for public records..


You should worry about identity theft.. There are services that help you protect your identity and clean up if it has been stolen.. Consider applying if you have a good job and a bright future to look up to. It's just as important as health and dental insurance.

As far as google goes, an employer might look up your name. What will they find? You can impress them like this, by making your own sites with your own content, troll sites, that tell a high value sotry of sorts about you..

For example, you are applying on a job, and you put in your resume that you worked for a company and was a leader there. Make a troll site with fake company, that sites how much money they made and thanks you for being a leader.. Whatever.. If employer looks you up, they will read it, and you're valuable..

Other useful example is if you haven't worked for a year or two for whatever reason, you can say you ran your own business.. Make a website, etc, etc.. Even make a fake business card.. You get the picture!

Actually he's not joking. He's talking about the new release in 2008. The current release, google sends your porn information directly to your mom via email. She knows everything.
