i've been doing a lot of thinking about what i want to do for the rest of my life.
it scares me.
i mean, what everyone wants are happy emotions right?
my parents want me to be a doctor so i can have lots of money and be happy.
but to become a doctor, i'll have to suffer until i'm in my 30's in school and having no free time.
I don't want to be miserable for half of my life, so i can be happy the second half- if i'll even live that long.

what do you guys do?
what do you think you can improve in your life?
money is very important to me, but also having free time.
but the thing is, jobs that make a lot of money require a lot of time.

also, people say that playing video games are a waste of time.
but i don't see how.
I get enjoyment from them.
isn't it our goal in life to be happy as much as possible?
well, if video games bring me happiness, then why not?

i'm just really confused by where i want to go in life.
should i try to become a doctor? and maybe fail, or are there jobs that i can make over 100k and still have time to do things i'm passionate about.

what would really be nice is if there were fields of jobs that i'm passionate about that still make a lot of money.

i'm interested in swimming, violin, food, and doing things with my hands.
i was thinking maybe a nutritionist, violin maker, sport analysist, chef....... but all those make very little money.

my dad says that being an engineer wouldn't be bad, but what exactly do engineers do?

CA,

you cannot live your parents life.

You will not be happy by sacrificing your needs, dreams, and desires to please your parents or others.

This is THE number one question every Man must face in his life.

It IS Scary...

You need to find the strength inside of you to find the answer.

And sometimes that means displeasing your parents and loved ones....
You need to be emotionally strong and have strong character to follow your dreams.
Most of the time they ARE totally different from what our parents want for us.

You need to be ready to handle that.
Even if it means that they become alientated to you.
This happens.

Parents want us to have the best life, but on their terms, not ours.
Parents often want to live their lives through their children.
But its not right nor healthy.

They mean well, but at a price.
They also feel since you are so young, impressionable, and dont know what you want...they dont want you to do something improper, or out of the box according to your family's value system. So they Decide FOR YOU.
IF you dont know what you want SOMEONE will DECIDE for YOU.

This is why it is important to be self reflective at all times and KNOW what you WANT.
And if you DONT know...then FIND OUT. Before others start deciding and DICTATING your life.

CA, this does not mean that you are to REBEL and REVOLT.
This means that you summon your masculine and mature energy and deal with this situation like a MAN. Confident, self assured, and READY to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for your OWN Actions and Decisions.
Thats why it's scary.
Because we will live 'without a net'

NO ground under feet
NO roof over head

You see, when we let parents or others deicde FOR Us, we let go of responsibility and can 'coast' and say 'well, since Im a failure and not happy its THEIR fault', that way, we can divest ourselves of responsibility and give ourselves a chance for self pity and resentment.
But the truth is, that we GAIN so much from deciding and action on our own behalf, that it is not scary at the end.
Because the satisfaction and gratification we get from taking charge in our lives is extremely important and valueable to us. And it is critical in BEING a mature, masculine MAN.
You will be faced with these challenges again and again, so start preparing now for these events in your life.

You either embrace your masculinity and accept responsibility come what may, or you let go of your maturity, character, and masculinity by letting others decide for you.

You choose.

I'm not name-dropping here this is just an example.

I know an actor who has appeared on Deadwood along with multiple movies and shows and he's very proud of where he is today. This was his dream to act, he went against his parents (wanted him to get a federal job that was secure), and his friends (thought he was nuts while they instead settled into the smalltown life of being a mechanic, etc.). He wasn't afraid of busting and going broke, it was the price he was willing to pay to do what he wanted in life.

Take the time and think about what you enjoy in life. And do that. Imagine waking up everyday to do something you love.

Do not let anyone tell you what you should and shouldn't do with your life. It's your choice. It is your life.

the thing about life is this, in order to get something, something else has to give. It is the universal law. In order to make money, you have to sacrifice some happiness. there is no free lunch in this world, everything must balance. For example, for you to save money, you have to spend and sacrifice time to earning it. in order for you to learn a new art, you have to learn it.

People say playing video games is a waste of time because they feel there is no educational value coming out of it. I know a guy who has a sister that works for AE Sports. she plays video games every day at work and gets paid $100000 a year. And all she does is go to work and play video games to test out the game before distribution. She landed a pretty easy job.

A job is a job, regardless if many people look up to it or not. It doesn't matter what job it is. What's important is,

1. Do you enjoy doing it and
2. Does it provide the roof over your head and food on the table
3. You have enough to pay for yourself and
4. your future family. (in life, if your wife doesn't want to work anymore, are you able to provide for her and your child).

In every job, there is a Bill Gate. that's because each person brings to the company the true enthusiasm and drive as the Founder of that company.
Not sure if you know what I mean...

you have to find that out for yourself.

Some say, education is very important. Well, to me, it's just a piece of paper saying you can read. At the end of the day, you still have to deal with the politics and people at work.

I know someone who has a Masters degree and he got a job serving meals.

If you're good with your hands, you can research into finding what jobs are related with using your skills with the hands. ie, dentistry, engineering, etc.. if you're good with math; accounting, math teacher, etc...

list out your strong points, and your weaknesses and go from there. Ask your counsellors, your teachers, friends. sometimes, you might even land in a job that would never in a million years imagined you would be doing, and you might even enjoy doing it.

But what's important is, do you enjoy doing it? Money is just a piece of bartering commodity that we use in exchange for goods. do not put too much emphasis on making it. instead, focus on earning to live and not vice versa; living to earn like some people do.

If your life is miserable because of a job you aren't enjoying, then this will affect all aspects of your life. Not just you but your friends and your family.

Seriously think about that.

I'm probably going to sound redundant, but do something that makes you, not your parents, happy. Your parents throw around things like doctor and engineer because they know that you will have enough money to support yourself and them as they get older.
I had no idea what I wanted to do when I started college, let alone when I was 16 years old. I've always loved sports and had a passion about them, so I found something to do with sports. I'm currently in school for sports management with hopes of going to law school and eventually becoming a professional agent.
As far as making money, as long as you have enough money you will be set. Having lots of money doesn't lead to happiness, but a lack of money leads to unhappiness. You will be much better off earning $40k a year at a job you enjoy with decent hours than working 70+ hours a week and earning $100k.

The only purpose in life is to enjoy life.

Don't waste time figuring it out because it will only pass you by.
