Punching your weight, as you may or may not know, is a boxing phrase that basically means fighting w/in your own weight class. I was wondering what some other guys' opinions here might be on whether or not something similar doesn't apply to DJ'ing.
Think about it this way. If you're, say, a 7 or an 8 on the looks scale (and at some point you have to be able to step back and look at yourself objectively in order to truly determine this) then it's not unreasonable to figure that, especially with some solid game behind you, you'll be able to push 9's and even 10's most of the time. That's not that far out of your "weight class" so to speak. But is it realistic for guys who are, say, 4's and 5's, to come on here , to come into this community in general, and think that they're going to be able to hit the same levels as guys who are just more genetically blessed ?? I mean, the target has to be realistic is basically what I'm trying to say. Right?? If you're obviously a schlep, looks-wise, even after a (hypothetical) makeover, isn't there only going to be so much you're realistically going to be able to do in the way of nailing 9's or 10's ?? Shouldn't DJ's sort of "gage" their expectations according to what they have to work with to start off? Or , with a strong enough game and enough experience, is virtually anything possible?
