I heard that you should drink a lot of water when lifting to help digest all the protein you should be eating. How much water should you drink per gram of protein?

From the word of DC himself:

1g protein per lb = 1 gallon of water per day
1.5g protein per lb = 1.5 gallon of water per day
2g protein per lb = 2 gallons of water per day

This is the rule, no exceptions at all. Otherwise you'll have a whole host of problems.

Incidentally this imo should be taken ON TOP of what you'd normally drink during the day, especially if it's a hot day, you ate a lot of spicy food, etc.

Sodas etc do NOT count towards the count but flavoured water does (0 kcal stuff).

does milk count too? because it's 80% water, but it also contains 30g of proteins x liter...

i noticed that since i started to eat sh1tloads of meat and milk, i've been pissing A LOT more... expecially in the morning... i usually have to piss 5 times from 7am to 14am... is it normal or too much? after lunch it decreases, but i usually urinate a dozen times a day or so... how many times a day do you urinate on average?

Anything that contains water (including vegetables and fruit :p) counts. But sodas are junk to be avoided (esp coke - which - despite being a dring - has diurectic characteristic).

The rule is to drink often, and more then less. While I'd say that 2 gals/day is a bit excessive, 1-1.5 is usually enough.

However - I know people who could go through as much as 4-5 gallons during hot days (one guy is a pro cyclist, other a runner).

However - if during the day you feel thirsty, then you drank - TOO LITTLE - no matter how much was it.

Yea - incredible - isn't it?

Dunno much about the runner, but in the case of a cyclist it was a 125mile MTB marathon in about 35 celsius.

Usually he does a 100-150 km/day in the summer, and really hot days he drinks like mad.

i couldn't figure out myself drinking more than a couple of gallons a day... but if you think about it, when you cycle under 35° for 150 km, you sweat at least 3 gallons away...
