Does anyone else on here experience frequent constipation when they eat Protein bars? Perhaps a lot might have to do with the fact that I'm lactose intolerant, but the protein bars in general, at least in my opinion, seem to be a lot harder to digest comapred to the shakes, even though those do make me feel constipated as well. For that reason, I've decided to cut down on my consumption of protein bars.

Protein bars are full of inferior and overly processed proteins, as well as sugar alcohols and other fillers which can constipate you (or worse).

I'd avoid them entirely unless you find a brand you can stomach

I had this MetRx bar years ago, like about 8yrs ago, and I didnt eat it all, and I put it down the disposal, and I was in bed, and the kitchen was above me, and my mom turned on the disposal, and I heard this... Chunk..Chunk..Chunk..Chunk.

I think the bar broke the insinkerator. LMAO

My mom then goes.. what is down there? I told her, and she said...and you eat those?

So now you know why you get constipated.

But for me, no I dont have a problem, and all I eat on occasion are the Promax bars. You may though, and some do depending on what are in them.

Try making your own. There's plenty of recipes on the internet.

I'm very lactose intolerant, and have no problem with Jay Robb's "no junk" cashew/coconut/whey protein bars. Good stuff.

Usually lactose intolerance = diarrhea, not constipation.

Try eating some salad greens with the protein bars to keep things moving along. And make sure you drink enough fluids. Perhaps put more protein and carb drinks into the mix.

Don't know about you guys, but I love the taste of protein bars... And if you're getting constipation, it means you're not drinking enough fluids.

You are right. But I think you don't need to cut down protein bars in all your meals. You can add more fruits and vegetables together with protein bars. They are not only help you prevent constipation but also provide enough nutrition for your body. I used to consume edamame and green beans. They are not only rich-fiber that could help for constipation prevention but also tasty. I can eat them a lot. :):)
Besides, drinking more liquid such as water, juice, yogurt...Liquid plays the important role to strong bowel system as well as the body.

purchased protein bars are generally full of crap and the protein gram/dollar value is crap. I would find an alternate source of protein...

Here's something people don't get: unless your diet lacks protein, buying protein supplements is a waste of money.

Protein bars tend to contain soy. I would advise removing it completely from your diet due to the fact that it poses a risk of gastrointestinal discomfort. Bars cost so much more than powder, and liquid protein permeates into your tissues much faster.

The Gatorade chocolate chip protein bar is my addiction right now. I don't really eat them for protein. I'm sure they're not all that good for you. I was running late one morning and grabbed one at work. Now I eat one almost every day because they're soooo good!

I've tried to cut back, but to no avail. I really think they're is some chemical that has me addicted. They have nearly 400 calories a bar, and by now I thought I'd pack on some weight. My job is insanely active and I've been lifting solidly for a year, so I guess I can afford this glorified candy bar everyday.
