I just got my arm out of a caste. The best thing you can do is let it heal and regain your strength later.

The strength will comeback eventually, but if you try to exercise your broken arm you may injure it further and worse case scenario you have to get a rebrake and go through the whole ****ty process again.

You can't preserve it, I had my arm broken once and you really have no choice you will have noticeably less muscle (when I had the cast removed the bicep was like 60% smaller) but it will come back once the cast is off and you work out.

Probably not feasible for most, but I remember hearing that some people have had wires strapped to their muscles that apply shocks that make the muscle contract hundreds of times in a minute, and you would actually put on muscle like you've worked out. Not something I'd do, but if you had a broken limb, that might be the only option to work the muscle.

Not much you can do to preserve muscle as far as working out. Eat more protein and drastically cut your carbs.

This is a load of bull. Injuries heal best if you use them if you're not stupid about it. Caveman didn't lie in bed for two weeks if he broke something. He walked it off or he died.

Ever heard of rehab?

Typical high rep bicep brigade problem. Get some myofibrillar growth in there so you don't shrivel just because you stop training for a little while.

Isn't that what chiropractor's used to 'activate' muscle and help to break up scar tissue? I think it's also used to help coma patients or bed ridden people in general to maintain muscle tone. I doubt it will make you grow muscle like that damn ab belt you see on tv that shocks your abs. Lots of little contractions isn't enough to stimulate growth. That's like doing 500 crunches compared to doing 10 with a heavy weight on your chest. The heavy weight is going to cause the growth.

mrRuckus is correct, I had to attend rehab for a few months. The worst part about it is trying to get your old range of motion back.

Keep protein high. Any muscle you lose will come back pretty quickly once you start lifting and eating properly again.

A broken arm, you're "lucky." You can still get the good parts of your body working. Seems to me if you keep some maintenance of muscle throughout the reste of your body, your arm will recover quicker and also retain more mass than if you just sat on your ass all day crying about how your arm is shrinking. I mean, obviously, you're not going to be throwing up 350lb bench presses, but you get my point :)

A few years ago I fractured my neck and the neurosurgeon wouldn't even let me lift over 5lbs. Now that is agony!
