I've always struggled with the paradox of falling in love with women and have them fall in love back, but at the same time despising monogamy and all it represents. Never been a big fan of one night stands. I like to feel intimate with a girl, I like to be close, tender, talk about hopes and dreams, make passionate love and fall asleep in each other's arms. I like to see them again and form relationships. But when I'm not with that girl, I like to do the same thing with other girls.
I've gone through various approaches in making this work with multiple partners, ranging from outright cheating, to jumping between short term relationships. For the most part of the last couple of years I've tried to manage my time between 2, 3 or 4 women, giving them as much attention as possible, but stopping short of agreeing to be in a relationship. This has either been stating that it's an open relationship, or just avoiding the conversation altogether.
Now for the first time I'm trying something new. There's one girl I particularly like, and she has made it clear that she doesn't mind sharing, but she does want to refer to each other as boyfriend and girlfriend. I told her the only way this would work is if I can also have other official girlfriends. She agreed to this, so my new status as being in a polyamorous relationship has arrived.
At the time of this agreement, I was seeing 3 other girls. So I needed to come clean to everyone about the whole situation. One of them was invited to become my second girlfriend. She wasn't interested and ended our relationship completely. The second one told me she was in love but for me it was too soon for that kind of declaration (and she is also friends with my first GF) so we agreed to LJBF. The third girl was also fairly recent and she agreed to keep seeing me knowing I had a GF and, within a few weeks she has asked to be my second GF.
So I now find myself in a situation where I have 2 girlfriends who know all about each other. It's a lot less stress not having to worry about who finds out stuff they won't be happy with, but it is quite tiring making time and having energy for both of them This is making it so that I don't really feel the need to go out and meet new women like I used to. I have stability and variety already. It's quite early stages but this has been going on for about a month and it seems to be working. I can pull other girls and in theory could add a third GF but I think the logistics would be a bit too much.
For me this seems like a logical progression. In an ideal world I would be able to get them both in my bed at once but they live in different towns and haven't even met each other. I have had a threesome already with one of them and another female friend (although we were interrupted before finishing) so, who knows...
Has anyone else tried this approach with maintaining multiple partners? The problem with "plate spinning" for me is once feelings come into it, you have to commit or let it crash and burn.
