my bad. I must have missed that post when I looked through the thread. I found it and understand everything now. Whew, thought you were discussing the thread via PM or something. Then decided to randomly post a PM on the message board. Now that would be comic.iqqi said:Lol, does CR have me blocked cuz I's a woman? Haha. That IS comedic!
It's just making fun of your shortcomings, but that would mean that the shortcoming actually exists. So does that mean that you are actually as ugly as you joke to be?comic_relief said:...maybe just maybe, we should define self-depricating humor so we don't get our definitions mixed up.
well now you guys can see what I look at what I actually look like.Francisco d'Anconia said:It's just making fun of your shortcomings, but that would mean that the shortcoming actually exists. So does that mean that you are actually as ugly as you joke to be?
Clearly, hence the different spellings and the different etymological histories and the different senses.iqqi said:Accept and approve ARE different words with different meanings.
synonym: "two words that can be interchanged in a context are said to be synonymous relative to that context"They may be similar, and they can be used as synonyms, but they aren't the same. [Emphasis added.]
See, the two words are not synonymous in this context because, well, this context differs from the context to which I was referring. In this context, these words share the attributes that Frank described; however, I was talking about "acceptance" and "approval" as social phenomena.Quite simply, you can approve something or someone, without fully accepting it/them. Happens all the time with credit cards! And vice versa. "I accept this, Mary Jane, because I have to. But I don't approve!!"
Good. You're not missing the point of living then.WhitePimp said:I think I'm actually more interested in making myself laugh than fvcking girls...and I dont really have a problem with that anymore. :crazy:
I'm missing the self deprecating part.comic_relief said:...
"Sarah": HEY mean!!!
"Sarah": I don't like you anymore
halay615: I didn't know that you ever did like me
"Sarah": yes hun the past like 5 months were just for the hell of it and for the sex haha
halay615: don't forget a trophey boytoy to show off to your friends
"Sarah": exactly u figured me out
halay615: ah, damn I'm good
"Sarah": haha u wish u were half as good as russell (ex-boyfriend who only lasted five minutes)
"Sarah": haha
halay615: damn straight
halay615: need to get some tips from him and Matt (a person who controls his girlfriend so much that she is not allowed out of his sight and won't let her hang out with her friends) ...
hmmm... maybe that was a bad example.Francisco d'Anconia said:I'm missing the self deprecating part.
Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.
