"Number doesn't happen till we talk some more"

I have a feeling I'm gonna get this a lot. Online dating is vastly different than real life dating. In this situation I would have normally nexted the broad right away, but is it the same online?

I thought the point of exchanging numbers was just that: talking.

How on earth do you have a conversation when your message is read hours after it was sent.

I need your help dawgs.

You failed somewhere.

You could have asked for the number too soon without building enough rapport/interest or maybe the girl is just on a power trip.

Either way, the ball is in her court right now. You can either stick around and try to do some damage control (shifting the power to her) or save yourself a headache and next her.

You decide.

How do I know what's too soon.

If I approach a chick, I would get her number in that single conversation.

This online dating thing is a whole different ball game.

How long have you been talking online for? I'd probably say if only two or three messages tell her for every email you send her reply has to be a digit of her number at the end. (Send quick creative questions or replies till you get to ten.) If she disagrees or plays games send an email saying here's mine: "0". And don't read just delete her reply and on to the next. (I mean if you're going to play her email game you need something from her right?)

Or tell her: "I have a thousand text limit. Give me your number woman and I swear I'll only text you to my limit!"

Or tell her: (if you've been talking for awhile): "I get it. You say that "number doesn't happen till we talk more" line to all the fishsticks. I thought I was special. You're just chumming the waters of my wittle fish heart! Can't you at least pretend woman?"

Words typed on a screen convey no tonality, emotion, or real sense of connection.

You never know if it's really her or how old the pictures are. Or if she's even worth it. Which most online probably aren't. (Try to get a facebook and give yours so you can both see more recent pictures of one another then ask for her number)

On POF, I've noticed asking for the number on their is futile. Only if they're extremely attracted to you or my profile, have I gotten numbers off the bat. The majority of the time, I message them about 4-5 times and on the fifth or fourth, I'll ask for their Messenger, E-mail, MSN or Skype. Now, yeah it sucks to use these applications. But it is a handy-perk if you're going to build some forms of rapport and comfort with a chick off of there. After a bit of chitchat, I'll exchange numbers on a high-note. Ideally, I'd want to get her on a high note when she gave me her e-mail. Stop asking for numbers, start asking for messengers and emails.

You see, girls like to prolong the inevitable. Especially on MSN, try not to catch yourself building too much of a "connection". Lots of teasing, knicknames, funny scenarios of you and her, taking her for granted, Big brother & little sister flufftalk. No interview questions. Let her ask YOU the questions and be hot and cold with them, less is more. You don't have to worry about building huge amounts of rapport, leave that for the phone and even then, you want to do too much of rapport-building, preferably you want to get the date pretty much the same week. Be dominant and leading. When she is on a high-note, ask for the number and that you'll text her in 5 minutes because you're logging off and going to get something to eat.

She's still hesitating on Instant Messengers and E-mails?

Don't sweat it. Tell her "Haha. You should totally play hard to get, well I'm going to get something to eat now. Later". Be hot and cold, you see her online. Speak to her, by this time, she should figure you're a cool and calm collected dude and feel comfortable soon enough to give you her number. Be hot and cold with her. Why? shows you don't care and not another desperate chump online. Hot and Cold is basically push and pull. If at this point, you haven't got her number, she doesn't say whats up or she is a stale contact online, NEXT. This has worked for me, others may disagree and tell you to ask for the numbers on POF itself.

Trust me on asking for Facebook. Way more pictures and clearer at that. Plus you can see if she's your typical attention wh0re.

I never write or post to woman online. Just to see more recent pictures. then I ask for a number. They usually give it. Only had one say no. A no now may be a yes later if you even care at that point.

Why are you asking for her number from an online dating site? I go on dates with chicks I never talk with on the phone. Most online chicks hate talking on the phone.

However, as a rule if I ask for something, and she denies it, I take some big, big steps back. If that happened to me I'd probably pass her up, it's almost impossible to salvage things once you've started down the road of refusal. It also means that she thinks she's the one to be calling the shots. Major red flags there. I'd eject.

I went with this and was surprised she went with it. That only proves how high her interest level is.

I'll report back soon. (If you give a sh1t, of course)

It could be a fake number she gives. But may not be either. Just don't get into long drawn out email convo's and after you get it wait a few days to call (leave a message etc.) or she may "regret" you calling her as soon as you get it and act flakey. Just TELL her you want to set up a quick face to face meet for dessert or something.

Believe me. These online "catches" aren't all they're cracked up to be from their online profile "resume" so don't put her on a pedestal or anything. Keep talking to others and getting numbers. Be playful when you TELL them you want their number. Like: "Give Mr. 'online' Confidence your number woman! And DEAL with it toots!" (They get off on the stupid demands you make as long as they don't come across as desperate, or too controlling.)

Report back when you get the chance.

It also proves how all she wanted to do is dangle the carrot at you.

The higher her interest level is, the easier she will make it for you to call her. I suggest you change that frame (where she's in control and has you jumping through her hoops) immediately, and start challenging her.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.

And that's why you don't call right away when you do get it and keep hitting up other fish!
