For those of you surfers and surfboard makers out there, a question for you. Clarkfoam, a company that creates the foam used for surfboards, has just closed down, leaving thousands without a job overnight. I have some close friends who depnd on their father's boardshop, and he has been directly hit. Does anyone know of some alternative foam producers or any ideas for alternatives to be used for creating surfboards. This is really important for them and for me, so any help would be appreciated. Thanx.

Unless someone takes over the industry this could be the end of fiberglass surfboards. I hate the plastics but theres no way im spending 1,000 bucks on a fiberglass shortboard.

It's going to be hard looking for a replacement for Clark's, but I'd say Google up something like Surfboard blanks and see if you get any good vendors.

You could also do some research on the business.

Find out why they are closing... usually it is bankruptcy due to competitors selling quality products at discount prices, or top-notch at high prices, with boards I doubt the latter(considering there are new boarders born everyday), so assume the former.

Clarkfoam may be selling out their inventory, so get your dad to find some hook-ups who will buy it in bulk and give your dad Factory prices for the final product line.

You can also determine who else is on the market, and get some quotes from multile vendors.

PS I'm a fan of the old woodshaven boards :p

I'm not into the patch work of the new boards, plastics and inert foamies aren't my style...

PPS I've never boarded on water, only planche de voile

They will be making them out of EPS and Epoxy rather than Clark and Polyester resin.

Don't worry, this will fix itself.
